as＋形容詞／副詞＋asは『同じ程度』
- Ken is as tall as Yui. → 背丈が同じ。
- She speaks as clearly as Ken. → 話す明瞭さが同じ（副詞）。
- Room A is not as large as Room B. → AはBほど大きくない。
- Ken is shorter than Yui. → 同じ条件ならKen is not as tall as Yui.と説明できる。
形容詞・副詞を区別する
She is as careful as her teacher. は人の性質なので形容詞careful。She works as carefully as her teacher. は働き方なので副詞carefullyです。同じ『同じくらい注意深い』という日本語でも、文中で何を説明するかが異なります。
as manyとas muchは名詞の種類で決める
as many books as は数えられるbooks、as much water as は数えられないwaterです。information・money・timeも通常不可算なのでmuchを選びます。反対にquestions・students・chairsは可算複数なのでmanyを使います。
倍数はtwice as many／twice as much
本が20冊と10冊なら20÷10＝2なのでtwice as many books as、水が400mLと200mLならtwice as much water asです。『二倍ある』ことと『二つ多い』ことは別であり、数値から言えない成果や効果まで推定してはいけません。

5．図書室の数量比較を読む独自英文8問（Q33〜Q40）
In a fictional school library project, students compared two reading rooms. Room A had twenty chairs and Room B had ten, so Room A had twice as many chairs as Room B. However, both rooms had the same amount of time reserved for the activity: sixty minutes. The students wrote that each group had as much time as the other, even though they did not have the same number of chairs. Ken and Yui also counted books. Ken prepared twelve books, while Yui prepared six. Ken had twice as many books as Yui. The teacher asked students to keep the number of books separate from the quality of the explanations. Having more books did not prove that a presentation was twice as helpful. The student council compared water supplies for the two rooms. One container held 400 millilitres, and another held 200 millilitres. The first had twice as much water as the second. A student wrote ‘twice as many water’, and the teacher corrected the expression because water is an uncountable noun. During the event, the two groups finished their reading task.
