測定した事実Fourteen students walked to school.
I think the library needs a quiet space.
推測It may improve concentration.
We did not measure test scores.

A group of students asked forty classmates how they usually traveled to school. Sixteen answered that they took a train, fourteen said they walked, and ten said they took a bus. The group first wrote, ‘Trains are the most environmentally friendly way to travel because they are the most popular.’ Their teacher pointed out that the survey recorded choices, not carbon emissions. The students had not measured how far anyone traveled or how much energy each journey used. They revised their statement: ‘In our survey, trains were the most common choice, but we cannot conclude which method had the smallest environmental impact.’ The group planned to study reliable transport data and compare similar journeys before making a stronger claim.

  1. How many students were surveyed?
  2. How many traveled by train?
  3. How many walked?
  4. Which method had the fewest users?
  5. What did the first claim incorrectly conclude?
  6. What did the survey actually measure?
  7. Name one important unmeasured factor.
  8. What was the revised conclusion?

Two students prepared an English guide to a small history center. Yuna found an old printed brochure saying that the center opened at nine every day. Kota checked the center’s current official website and saw that it opened at ten on weekdays and was closed on Mondays. The brochure had been printed four years earlier. Their group decided to use the newer official information and record the date on which it had been checked. Before presenting the guide, they asked three classmates to find the opening hours. Two found the information easily, but one could not because the text was too small. The group enlarged the schedule and asked the classmates to test the page again. The students did not claim the guide would always remain accurate because schedules could change.

  1. What did the old brochure say about opening time?
  2. How old was the brochure?
  3. What did the current official website say about weekday opening?
  4. On which day was the center closed?
  5. Which source did the group choose?
  6. What else did they record?
  7. How many classmates had trouble finding the hours?
  8. Why did they avoid a permanent accuracy guarantee?

A science club observed two school gardens for fourteen days. Garden A received sunlight during most of the afternoon, while Garden B was partly shaded by a building. At the beginning, the students planted ten seedlings in each garden. After two weeks, eight plants in Garden A and six in Garden B were growing well. One student claimed that sunlight alone had caused the difference. Another student noted that the gardens also had different soil conditions and may have received different amounts of water. The club had not measured soil nutrients or watering carefully. Its report therefore stated only what was observed and proposed a new experiment in which soil, water, and plant types would be kept similar. The students wanted evidence that separated a possible explanation from a confirmed cause.

  1. How many days did the students observe the gardens?
  2. How many seedlings were planted in each garden?
  3. How many plants grew well in Garden A?
  4. How many grew well in Garden B?
  5. Which garden received more afternoon sunlight?
  6. What cause did one student claim?
  7. Give one other possible factor.
  8. What was the purpose of the new experiment?

A student committee wanted to make the school library more useful. Mika suggested creating a silent reading corner, while Ren wanted tables where students could discuss books. Instead of voting immediately, the committee asked thirty students about their needs. Twelve preferred quiet reading, ten preferred group discussion, and eight wanted both types of space. The committee also checked whether the library had enough room for two separate areas. It learned that one unused table could be moved, but a second room was not available. The students proposed dividing the existing room into a quiet corner and a small discussion table. They planned to try this arrangement for three weeks and collect feedback about noise and reading comfort. They did not promise that everyone would like it. Their final report explained the compromise, the evidence, and what needed to be checked later.

  1. What did Mika propose?
  2. What did Ren propose?
  3. How many students answered the survey?
  4. How many preferred quiet reading?
  5. How many wanted group discussion?
