English Lounge

1|The Book with No Name|

On Monday, Mina found a small book without a title on the library’s return shelf. She wanted to take it home, but there was no library label inside. Instead of putting it in her bag, she took it to the librarian. The librarian checked the books that students had reported missing. The book belonged to a younger student who had left it there by mistake. On Wednesday, Mina met the student and returned it. The student smiled and said the stories in the book had been a gift from her grandmother. Mina realized that asking one question could prevent a larger problem.

問1:Who found the book?

問2:Where did she find it?

問3:Why did Mina ask the librarian?

問4:What was special about the book to its owner?

問5:Summarize the story in English.

問6:Ask Mina one sensible follow-up question.

2|The Reading Circle|

Four students started a reading circle after school. Each person read a different short story and brought one question for the others. At first, the students tried to choose the longest books because they thought longer books would always make them better readers. One member disagreed. She said that they should choose stories they could understand and discuss. The group tried both methods for two weeks. They enjoyed the shorter stories and asked more questions about them, but they had not measured their reading scores. They decided that enjoyment mattered while continuing to check their progress with their teacher.

問7:How many students started the circle?

問8:What did each student bring?

問9:Why did a member disagree with choosing only long books?

問10:Did the group measure reading test scores?

問11:Summarize this report in English.

問12:Ask the group an additional question.

3|A Different Bus|

Ken planned to visit a science museum on Saturday. A website showed that a bus usually left the station at nine fifteen. When he arrived, a notice said the first bus would leave at nine forty because of roadwork. His friend suggested walking, but the museum was far from the station, and they had only brought light jackets on a cold morning. Ken checked an updated route map and found another bus at nine thirty. It stopped near the museum’s east entrance. They took that bus, arrived before the first exhibition began, and learned to check notices rather than rely on old schedules.

問13:What time was the original bus expected to leave?

問14:What caused the delay?

問15:Which alternative bus did they take?

問16:Where did the new bus stop?

問17:Summarize the events in English.

問18:Ask Ken a follow-up question.

4|The Garden Project|

A class grew beans in two boxes. Box A was near a sunny window, and Box B was on a shelf farther from the light. After one week, the beans in Box A were taller. Some students said that more sunlight must have caused the difference. Then their teacher pointed out that Box A had received more water, too. The students understood that they could not identify the cause from their first experiment. They planned to use equal amounts of water and the same type of soil in a second test. They would record the height of each plant on the same days.

問19:Which box was near the sunny window?

問20:Which beans grew taller?

問21:What other condition differed?

問22:Why could the students not identify the cause?

問23:Summarize the experiment in English.

問24:Ask the class a research question.

5|A School Concert|

Aya’s music club planned a small concert for parents. The group wanted to begin at five because that was the time most members could arrive. However, two students needed to leave early to catch their buses. The teacher suggested starting at four thirty and performing the shorter songs first. The club asked parents about the change and checked when the hall was available. They found that four thirty would work, so they updated the invitations. One student said that a good plan should not only suit the largest group but should also consider people who have different needs.

問25:What was the first planned starting time?

問26:Why did two students need to leave early?

問27:What time did the concert finally start in the plan?

問28:Who did the club check with before changing invitations?

問29:Summarize the plan in English.

問30:Ask the organizer an extra question.

6|The Town Map|

A group made an English map for visitors to their town. They included a park, a museum, and a small bakery. One student wrote that the bakery was open every day, but another member checked its website and found that it closed on Tuesdays. The group corrected the map and asked a local shop owner to read the English directions. The owner said that the directions were clear but the street name was spelled incorrectly. After fixing both problems, the group printed a smaller number of maps for a trial. They planned to collect visitors’ questions before printing more.

問31:Name two places included in the map.

問32:On which day was the bakery closed?

問33:What was wrong with the street name?

問34:Why did they print only a few maps first?

問35:Summarize the project in English.

問36:Ask the group one new question.

1|The Book with No Name|

2|The Reading Circle|

3|A Different Bus|

5|A School Concert|

6|The Town Map|
