2.問題点をWhat went wrong?

3.First / Then / Finally

First, she lost a sketchbook. Then, she looked for it. Finally, she found it.

It is important to check information.

A|The Lost Sketchbook

Original short story:Maya loved drawing pictures of the sea. One Tuesday, she took her blue sketchbook to a small park near her house. She sat under a tree and drew a boat on the water. After an hour, clouds covered the sky, so she hurried home before the rain started. When she opened her bag that evening, the sketchbook was missing. She felt worried because she had spent many days working on the pictures. The next morning, she returned to the park with her older sister. They looked around the tree but found nothing. Then they saw a note on the park notice board. It said that someone had found a blue notebook and left it at the nearby community center. Maya went there and spoke to a staff member. She described the boat drawing on the first page. The staff member smiled and gave her the sketchbook. Maya thanked the person who had returned it by writing a short note. They practiced their songs in a room next to the public library. At first, everything went well. However, on the second day, a librarian asked them to stop because the sound was reaching the quiet reading area. Leo felt disappointed and thought they would have to cancel the performance. Hana suggested asking the center manager whether another room was available. The manager explained that a larger room on the first floor was empty after three o’clock. The friends moved their practice there and placed a sign near the door asking visitors to keep it closed. They could now practice without disturbing readers. On the day of the event, twenty families came to hear the music. Leo was nervous before beginning, but Hana reminded him how they had solved the problem together. C|A Map with Two Answers

Original short story:Nina and Kenta were preparing a report about an old bridge in their town. They found a map in the library that showed the bridge in a different place from the modern map. Kenta immediately said that the bridge had been moved. Nina was not sure. She pointed out that the old map had no clear scale and might not show distances accurately. They visited the local history museum to ask about the maps. A guide showed them a photograph from forty years ago. It showed the bridge near the place marked on the modern map. The guide also showed a document explaining that the bridge had been repaired after a strong storm, but it had not been moved. Kenta realized that his first conclusion was wrong. He thanked Nina for asking more questions. When they wrote their report, they described what each map showed before explaining the photograph and document. They also wrote that one picture or map may not provide enough evidence to understand a historical event. Their teacher liked the clear distinction between observation and conclusion. Nina said the most useful part of the project was learning how to change an idea when new evidence appeared.

D|The Postcard from Far Away

Original short story:Aoi had been exchanging postcards with a girl named Sara who lived in another country. They had never met, but they both enjoyed learning about nature. One day, Sara wrote about a mountain near her home. She explained that the mountain looked blue in the evening and asked whether Aoi knew a beautiful natural place in Japan. Aoi decided to describe a small forest where she often walked with her father. Before writing, she checked the names of two birds that lived there. She first found an article online, but it did not say who had written it. She then borrowed a bird guide from the public library and compared the information. The guide helped her check the birds’ English names. Aoi wrote a short postcard describing the forest, the sound of birds, and the changing color of the leaves in autumn. She also asked Sara what the mountain was like in winter. After sending it, Aoi felt proud because she had written something personal and checked her facts carefully.
