結論｜mandatory・compulsory・required・optional・voluntary・recommended
mandatory / compulsory：義務や規則で必須（compulsory attendance）。required：指定条件として必要（be required to register）。optional：参加するか選べる（optional workshop）。voluntary：自主的に選ぶ（voluntary clean-up）。recommended：勧められるが、それだけでは義務を意味しない（recommended materials）。これらは意味が重なる場面があるため、文法・条件・状況を合わせて判断します。
イベントへの参加がvoluntaryであっても、参加を選んだ人にはregistrationがrequiredの場合があります。do not have to（義務なし）とmust not（禁止）も区別してください。
