結論｜tellは伝達、remindは思い出させる、informは情報提供、notifyは正式な通知
tell + 人 + to do は行動を指示し、remind + 人 + to do は忘れないように思い出させます。inform + 人 + of / that… は情報を知らせ、notify + 人 + of / that… は正式な通知として伝えます。たとえば The school informed parents of the schedule. は日程を知らせた、The school reminded parents to check the schedule. は日程を確認するよう念を押した、という違いです。
本教材は慶英会が独自制作した短文40問＋案内Eメール4通16問＝合計56問です。英検準2級の短文・会話・Eメール読解、学校の定期テストの英作文に役立ててください。実際の試験の出題頻度・正答率を示すものではなく、英検協会の過去問の転載でもありません。
4つの語の基本構文を覚える
- tell 人 to do / tell 人 that …：『人に〜するよう言う／〜という情報を伝える』。tell meで受け手が必要なことが多い。
- remind 人 to do / remind 人 of … / remind 人 that …：『人に思い出させる』。以前伝えた締切の再確認にも使い、remind me toをひとまとまりで覚える。
- inform 人 of / about … / inform 人 that …：知らせる・案内する。inform parents of the changeのように受け手を明確にする。
- notify 人 of / about … / notify 人 that …：正式な連絡・通知。be notified of a decisionの受動態も重要。
informとnotifyは完全な反意語でも別物でもない
学校からの日程変更などではinformとnotifyの両方が自然です。notifyのほうが公式な通知の意味を強調しやすいものの、同じ英文の中で両方が使える場合もあります。試験の四択で単語だけを見て『informは誤り』とするのは危険です。本教材は意味・構文・通知の段階を理解する演習として設計しています。
tellとsayとexplainの語順も混同しない
Tell me the answer. は自然ですが、Say me the answer. は通常誤りです。Say the answer to me.、Explain the answer to me. のように前置詞が必要な構文もあります。なお remind me to check と remember to check は主語の立場が異なり、前者は他者が思い出させ、後者は本人が忘れずに行動することを表します。

各英文を訳し、『指示』『念押し』『情報の提供』『正式な通知』のどの機能が中心か答えてください。必要に応じて意味が重なる場合は、唯一の正解だと決めつけないことも大切です。

よくある質問
Q．tellとinformは置き換えられますか？
情報を人に伝える文脈では重なることがあります。informは少し改まった表現になりやすく、tell + 人 + to doは行動の指示として頻繁に使います。
Q．remind to doはそのまま使えますか？
通常はremind someone to doと、思い出させる相手を示します。Remember to doとは構造が違います。
Q．notifyはメールだけですか？
メール、書面、アプリ、口頭などさまざまな方法で通知できます。重要なのは公式な連絡・通知という機能です。
