英文B|図書館の携帯拡大鏡サービス(Q26〜29)
A public library in a small town began a project to lend portable reading magnifiers to visitors. The magnifiers made letters appear larger, which was helpful for people who had trouble reading small print. Residents could borrow one for up to three days after showing a library card. In the first month, 58 people borrowed magnifiers. Staff recorded 81 loans because some people returned one and borrowed it again later. Seventy-two loans had been returned by the end of the month, and the remaining items were still on loan at that time. Library staff asked 30 borrowers whether the magnifiers had helped them read more comfortably. Twenty-three said yes, five were unsure, and two said no. However, the library had not measured how many pages people read or how long they spent reading. Staff therefore did not claim that the service had improved everyone’s reading ability. Some users found it difficult to understand which button changed the magnification level. The library added pictures to the instructions and offered a short demonstration at the counter. It will record how often visitors ask for help before deciding whether to buy more devices.
Q26. How many people borrowed magnifiers in the first month?
- 30
- 58
- 72
- 81
Q27. How many loans had been returned by the end of the month?

- The magnifiers helped them read more comfortably
- They had read exactly one hundred pages
- They wanted the library to stop lending devices
- They had never borrowed a magnifier
Q29. Why did the library add pictures to the instructions?
- The library wanted to sell pictures
- All devices had been lost
- Some users found the magnification buttons confusing
- The library was moving to a different town
