英文B｜日英バイリンガル音声ガイドの実験（Q26〜29）

A local museum decided to offer a bilingual audio guide for visitors who spoke different languages. The guide included twelve short stories about objects in the museum. Six stories were recorded in English and Japanese, and the other six were only in Japanese at first. The museum asked volunteers to translate the remaining stories. Some translations used words that were difficult for young visitors. A teacher suggested trying them with a group of students before recording the final versions. The volunteers read each story aloud, and students explained what they thought it meant. In one story, students did not understand the word “merchant.” The volunteers changed the explanation to “a person who buys and sells things.” Students could then answer questions about the story more easily.
