A town wanted to make its walking routes easier to use. It created a digital map showing where people could find benches, public toilets, and paths without steps. The map was available on the town website, and paper copies were also placed at the information center. In the first month, 90 people visited the map’s web page. The town asked 45 of them whether the information was useful. Thirty-two said yes, eight were unsure, and five said no. However, some visitors may have opened the page more than once, and the town did not know how many people used the paper copies. It therefore could not say how many different people had used the maps altogether. Some people said the symbols were difficult to understand. The town replaced several symbols with simple pictures and added short explanations. It will ask more users to test the updated map before deciding whether to create similar maps for other neighborhoods.
