So do I / Neither can I / Not really / I’m afraid so 例えば “Isn’t the workshop free?” に対する “No, it isn’t.”
So do I/Neither do Iなどの同意、省略回答の肯定・否定を中心とした教材です。
- Isn’t it …?
- Isn’t it …? → No, it isn’t:実際にそうでないならNoを使う。
- So do I:肯定文への同意。
- Neither can I / Neither have I:否定内容への同意。
- Not really / Hardly:

Script 1|
Woman: Isn’t the weekend workshop free? Man: No, it isn’t. There’s an eight-dollar materials fee, although students don’t have to pay for the lesson itself. Woman: So I need to bring eight dollars even if I’m a student? Man: Yes. The fee applies to everyone because it covers the printed materials. Woman: Understood. I’ll pay when I register.
Script 2|
Man: Didn’t the school cancel the science event? Woman: No, it didn’t. The event is still happening, but it has been moved from the outdoor area to Room B. Man: Oh, I heard there was a problem with the weather. Woman: That’s why they changed the location. Registration is already closed, but everyone who signed up can attend. Man: Great. I’ll go to Room B.
Script 3|
Woman: Don’t you think the application deadline is too early? Man: Yes, I do. Some students won’t have their final documents until Thursday, but the deadline is Tuesday. Woman: Could we ask the office for an extension? Man: I think that’s sensible. Let’s request Friday as the new deadline, although the office hasn’t agreed yet. Woman: I’ll write to them today.
Script 4|
Man: Wasn’t the meeting moved to Friday afternoon? Woman: Actually, no. It’s still on Thursday at four. The room changed to the smaller conference space, which may be why people got confused. Man: So only the room was changed? Woman: Exactly. Everyone should check the updated location in the email. Man: I’ll do that before leaving.
Script 5|So do I:肯定の同意と条件
Woman: I find the online library workshops useful because I can join from home. Man: So do I. But I wish they would publish the materials earlier. Woman: Why is that? Man: I need time to read them before the discussion. Woman: That makes sense. I can suggest it to the organizers. Man: Thanks. The workshop is good; the preparation could be better.
Script 6|Neither can I:双方とも参加不可
Man: I can’t attend the volunteer meeting at six this evening. Woman: Neither can I. I have an appointment until seven. Man: Should we send our ideas by email? Woman: Yes. We can also ask for the minutes afterward. Man: Good idea. I’ll send my suggestions before the meeting starts. Woman: I’ll do the same.
Script 7|Neither have I:未確認の事実
Woman: I haven’t checked the latest train timetable yet. Man: Neither have I. I thought the service had been reduced, but I’m not certain. Woman: We should check the railway’s official website before making plans. Man: Agreed. I don’t want to rely on an old screenshot. Woman: Let’s look at the schedule now.
Script 8|
Man: I liked the first design for the new bus stop. Woman: I didn’t. It looked attractive, but it seemed too large for the narrow pavement. Man: The revised plan has a smaller shelter. Woman: That sounds more practical. I’d like to see whether it leaves enough space for pedestrians. Man: The town is testing it next week.
Script 9|Not really:
Woman: Was the new appointment system a complete success? Man: Not really. More people registered online, but several residents still had trouble using it. Woman: Is the office going to keep the system? Man: Yes, with telephone support for those who need it. We’re also collecting feedback rather than judging success by sign-up numbers alone.
Script 10|Hardly:
Man: Did the changes eliminate the long queues outside the clinic? Woman: Hardly. Waiting times are shorter on some mornings, but people still have to queue on busy days. Man: So the problem hasn’t completely disappeared? Woman: Exactly. The clinic is reviewing staffing and reservation times before making further changes.
Script 11|I’m afraid so:望ましくない事態を肯定
Woman: Is the outdoor concert going to be canceled because of the storm? Man: I’m afraid so. The organizers announced the cancellation this morning. Woman: That’s disappointing. Will tickets be valid for a future event? Man: They haven’t decided yet, so we’ll need to wait for an official update. Woman: I see. I won’t make new travel arrangements until then.
Script 12|I hope not:希望と事実を区別
Man: Is the community library going to close permanently? Woman: I hope not. I heard it might close for repairs, but no permanent closure has been announced. Man: So we shouldn’t assume it’s shutting down forever? Woman: Exactly. Let’s check the official notice before sharing the rumor. Man: Good idea.
