If you were …, what would you be thinking? には I’d be thinking …、過去の場面での行動には I would have …

If you were / If you had been / What should の違い

I’d be thinking that we need another solution.
  • If you had been …:過去にその場面にいたとしたら、という反実仮想。例 I would have contacted the office earlier.
  • Do you agree / What should …:現在の賛否や今後の対策を問う表現。

If you were a student council member in the last picture, what would you be thinking?

I’d be thinking that our original idea was worthwhile but that the return process was too complicated. I would want to check whether the new signs were clear and ask classmates how the system could be improved.

解説:その時点の心情なのでI’d be thinking。

If you had been the teacher when the line became long, what would you have done?

I would have asked students where the delay was occurring. Then I would have opened another collection point and explained the procedure more clearly. That could have reduced confusion without canceling the whole trial.

Do you agree with the decision to continue the trial?

Yes. The trial can help students understand waste reduction through experience. However, it is important to check operating costs and return rates before expanding the system. Continuing a small trial seems reasonable.

What should the council do before expanding the program?

It should measure how often containers are returned and ask students about difficulties. Staff also need enough time for cleaning and collection. A larger program would make sense only if the trial worked reliably.

If you were the librarian in the final picture, how would you feel?

I would feel relieved that visitors could receive more organized assistance. At the same time, I would want to check that the translations were accurate and that volunteers understood the limits of their role.

What would you have done if you had been a volunteer asked a difficult legal question?

I would have explained that I was not qualified to give legal advice. Then I would have referred the visitor to an appropriate professional or public office. Giving an invented answer could cause serious confusion.

解説:would have explained / referredと具体的に述べる。

Do you support keeping the volunteer service?

Yes. Volunteers can help residents understand basic procedures and feel welcome in the community. Nevertheless, complicated medical or legal decisions should be handled by qualified professionals. The referral system makes the service more responsible.

How could the library make the information more accessible?

It could provide shorter guides in several languages and accept reservations by telephone. The staff should also ask visitors which instructions are still confusing. Their feedback could be used to improve the service.

If you were the resident in the last picture, what would you be thinking?

I’d be thinking that telephone booking made the service easier to use. However, I would still want to know whether buses could arrive in time for medical appointments. A booking method alone cannot guarantee reliable transportation.

If you had designed the bus service, what would you have done differently?

I would have consulted residents before selecting the booking method. Because not everyone owns a smartphone, I would have offered telephone reservations from the start. That might have prevented some people from being excluded.

Do you think the town responded appropriately?

Yes. Officials listened to residents and introduced another way to reserve rides. However, they should continue checking journey times and operating costs. A service can be convenient to book but still difficult to use in practice.

How should officials judge whether the service works?

They should examine whether people can reach clinics, shops, and other essential destinations. Waiting times and operating costs are also important. Simply counting application downloads would not reveal whether transport needs were actually met.

If you were the student in the last picture, how would you feel?

I would feel more confident about finishing my assignments because I could use the tablet with offline materials. Still, I might need help with unfamiliar software. I would appreciate clear instructions from the librarian.

What would you have done if you had been the librarian when the problem was reported?

I would have checked which assignments required an internet connection and asked teachers whether offline versions were available. I would also have informed students about the available support. That could have reduced unnecessary difficulties.

Was it a good idea to lend the devices?

Yes. Lending devices can reduce differences in access to digital learning. However, schools need to protect personal information and maintain the equipment. Having a device does not automatically mean that every student has the same learning opportunities.

How could the school improve fairness?

It could give priority to students without suitable devices and prepare offline resources where needed. Clear borrowing rules would also help students share equipment responsibly. These measures could make the program more practical.

If you were the town worker, what would you be thinking?

I would be thinking that a message on the website was not enough. I would want to check whether older residents and others without smartphones received clear instructions. Reaching people matters more than simply publishing a warning quickly.

If you had been responsible for the first warning, what would you have done?

I would have arranged several ways to share the information before the storm. These could include telephone calls and announcements at community centers. I would also have made the instructions short and easy to understand.

Should the town continue using its website for emergencies?

Yes. The website can update information quickly and reach many people. Nevertheless, it should be combined with other communication methods. Essential warnings must also reach residents who cannot access the internet.

What should officials review after the emergency?

They should ask whether residents received and understood the warnings. They should also investigate delays and confusion. The results could help officials prepare a more effective communication plan for future emergencies.

If you were the curator in the final picture, how would you feel?

I would feel pleased that some materials could be shared responsibly. At the same time, I would want to check the accuracy of the descriptions and respect the rights of creators. Providing access should not mean ignoring copyright.

What would you have done before uploading the images?

I would have checked who owned the image rights and whether permission was necessary. I would also have reviewed the captions. That could have prevented delays and helped the museum provide reliable information.

Do you agree with publishing only approved materials?

Yes. Museums should expand educational access while respecting legal restrictions. They can provide original written explanations when photographs cannot be reproduced. Publishing every image without checking permission would be irresponsible.

How could the museum help people who cannot visit in person?

It could create accessible text descriptions and arrange live online discussions with educators. It should also explain why some images are unavailable. These options would help visitors learn while respecting copyright restrictions.
