attribute A to Bとascribe A to Bは原因や性質をBに帰属する、credit A with Bは功績をAに認める、blame A for Bは責任をAに負わせる、account forは原因を説明する/全体の何割を占めるという意味です。

blame失敗・問題の責任を負わせるblame A for B / blame B on A誰の責任とされたか
account for説明する/一定の割合を占めるaccount for a difference / 40%原因説明か数量比率か

A town reviewed a new school-bus network after complaints about delays. The transport department attributed the improvement in average journey time to revised bus routes. However, the evaluation team warned that the change might also be related to fewer cars on the roads, and the study could not prove the route revision was the only cause. Officials later acknowledged that buses accounted for 42 percent of all school journeys during the trial. Several residents blamed the bus operator for cancellations during a storm, while the operator blamed those cancellations on sudden road closures. The school staff were credited with collecting accurate passenger counts over three months. When reviewing the final report, an analyst found that one complaint had been wrongly attributed to a different parent. The department corrected the record and promised to explain the remaining difference between predicted and observed passenger numbers before adopting further changes.

D1. What did the transport department attribute shorter journeys to?

D2. What proportion of school journeys did buses account for?

D3. What did the bus operator blame cancellations on?

D4. Who was credited with accurate passenger counts?

A nonprofit organization introduced a program that collected surplus food from supermarkets and delivered it to community kitchens. Its director attributed an increase in food donations to a public-awareness campaign, although local stores had also changed their own policies. Researchers noted that supermarket donations accounted for almost half the food delivered during the pilot period. Volunteers were credited with improving the speed of distribution by organizing deliveries more efficiently. A newspaper article blamed food suppliers for some delays, but later evidence showed that heavy rain had closed several delivery roads. The article also wrongly attributed a quotation to the nonprofit’s founder, who had not attended the interview. When the organization evaluated the project, it tried to account for differences between the amount of food collected and the amount actually delivered. The report said that attributing the rise to one campaign alone would be premature until other factors had been examined.

D5. What did the director initially attribute increased donations to?

D6. Approximately what share of delivered food came from supermarkets?

D7. What contribution were volunteers credited with?

D8. Why was blaming suppliers for all the delays questionable?

D1:Revised bus routes.

D2:42 percent.

D3:Sudden road closures during the storm. 本文根拠:blame A on Bの原因帰属。

D4:School staff.

D5:A public-awareness campaign.

D6:Almost half.

D7:Making distribution faster through more efficient organization.

D8:Heavy rain had closed several delivery roads.
