英語長文のsome・most・all・none・may・might・must・always・rarelyを、すべて同じ程度の意味で読んでいませんか。

結論:本文のsomeをallに、mightをwillに、not allをnoneに、more thanをat leastに置き換えてはいけません。

some・all・most・may・mustの違いを無料40問で復習

at least・at most・up to・more than|数値の境界最大・最低・超過・未満を同じにしない問31〜35

  • some / all / none:someは少なくとも一部について述べ、allは全員、noneは誰も〜ない。
  • not all / not always:部分否定であり、none/neverとは異なる。
  • may / might / could / must:文脈によって可能性・推量・義務などを表す。may helpをwill definitely helpに強めない。
  • only if / unless / at least / more than:必要条件・例外・数値の上限・下限が異なる。

Some students liked the activity.

2. few・a few・little・a little|数えられる物と量

問6:How many spare chairs did the club have?

問7:Does a few mean that there are no chairs?

問8:Which is natural for uncountable water: few water or little water?

問9:Did the passage say there was no milk at all?

問10:What did the teacher plan to buy before the event?

3. most・many・several|人数と割合

問18:If the venue closes, what will happen?

5. may・might・could・must|可能性と義務

問22:Have the learning outcomes already been measured?

問23:What must officials review?

問30:Rewrite the Tuesday attendance fact without overstatement.

7. at least・at most・up to・more than|数値の境界

The competition accepts at most twenty teams. Each team must prepare at least three activities. Visitors may watch up to ten demonstrations. Organizers say that more than seven volunteers will be needed, and all registration forms must be sent before Friday.

問32:Could the competition accept twenty-one teams under the stated limit?

問33:Does a team preparing two activities meet the requirement?

問34:Does ‘up to ten demonstrations’ mean every visitor will watch exactly ten?

問35:Would exactly seven volunteers satisfy the statement ‘more than seven are needed’?

An online practice program was tested with two groups. The first group averaged seventy points, and the second group averaged sixty-eight. Participants chose which group to join, and some students in the first group also received tutoring. The researchers said the two-point difference was interesting, but did not establish that the program alone caused it. They recommended a new trial with comparable groups.

問36:How large was the average score difference?

問37:Were participants randomly assigned to the groups?

問38:Name one factor other than the program that may explain the difference.

問39:Did the study establish that the program alone caused better scores?

問40:What additional research did the researchers recommend?

Q. at most 20には20が含まれますか?

A. はい。

A. いいえ。

A. いいえ。
