confirmedは確定、pendingは確認待ち、sold outは満席・売り切れ、waiting listは空き待ち、rescheduledは日程変更。英検4級を目指す中学生や保護者が学校・施設の英語メールを読む際、「申し込んだから参加できる」と思い込まないことが重要です。送信済みの申込と予約確定、満席とキャンセル待ち、日程変更とイベント中止はそれぞれ異なります。

英検4級と学校英語の通知・メール読解
日本英語検定協会の4級試験内容では、学校・公共施設・地域の場面やEメール等が題材となり、リーディング35分・リスニング約30分で理解を測ります。本記事は申込状態を読み分けるための慶英会オリジナル発展教材です。個別語句の頻出度や合格基準を示すものではありません。
confirmed・pending・sold out・waiting list・rescheduledの違い

「送信済み」と「予約確定」は別：Application submittedは申込フォームが送信された状態です。Pendingなら確定連絡を待つ必要があります。Confirmedになって初めて確定したと判断します。ただし現実のイベントごとに条件は異なり、メールに書かれた案内が最優先です。
「満席」と「空き待ち」も別：Sold outと表示されている場合でもwaiting listを受け付けることがあります。しかしキャンセル待ちへの登録は座席を保証しません。If a ticket becomes availableという条件節を見落とさないようにしてください。
日程変更と中止：Rescheduledは予定が別の日に変更されたこと、Canceledはイベントまたは予約が取り消されたことです。主語がThe eventなのかYour reservationなのかで、影響を受ける範囲が違います。

読解ミスを減らす5つの確認
①現在のステータスを探す（submitted／pending／confirmed）。②対象を確認する（イベント全体か、自分の予約か）。③日付を旧予定と変更後で分ける。④if・unless・otherwiseなどの条件を確認する。⑤reply by・bring・no action neededなど必要な行動を特定する。この5点を確認してから設問を解くと、単語の意味が分かっていても生じやすい誤答を防げます。
練習方法は、まず短文12問を解き、次に通知メール4題を2日かけて読み、間違えた設問だけ翌日と4日後に再挑戦します。学校の実際の連絡は、公式案内・保護者向けの日本語原文も併用してください。
よくある質問
pendingなら参加が確定していますか。
通常は確定前の確認・処理待ちです。参加可能かどうかは、そのイベントの受付条件と確定通知で判断します。
waiting listに入ると席が取れますか。
保証されません。空席が出てから連絡が届き、追加手続きが必要なことがあります。
rescheduledとcanceledはどう違いますか。
rescheduledは日程変更、canceledは取り消し・中止です。何が変更・中止されたかを主語と目的語で確かめます。
Payment receivedだけで予約確定ですか。
必ずしもそうではありません。支払い受領と予約確定は別のステータスになっている場合があります。案内のconfirmedなどを確認してください。
