本文の読み方：4種類の情報を見分ける

目印注目する情報間違いやすい読み方
planned / wanted to当初の予定変更後も同じだと思う
however / changed / instead変更・対比前半の日時を正解にする
if …条件付き実際に起きたことと断定する
by / at / after期限・時点・それより後集合と開始を混同する

例：The bus will leave at nine, but we must meet by eight forty-five. は「バスは9時に出るが、私たちは8時45分までに集合しなければならない」。by は期限、at はその時刻です。

復習の進め方

1日目はA、2日目はB、3日目はC、4日目はDを解きます。5日目は24問を答えを隠して解き直し、間違えた問題には「変更前／条件付き／時刻の取り違え／人数／人物・場所」のいずれかの失点理由を一つ書きます。6日目は英文の該当1文を声に出し、7日目には別の初見長文で同じ理由を説明できるか確かめます。

よくある質問

Q. if it rains と書かれていれば、雨が降ると確定していますか？

いいえ。if it rains は「もし雨が降れば」です。実際の天候が決まったとは限らず、雨天時の予定と晴天時の予定を分けて読みます。

Q. 集合時刻と出発時刻は同じですか？

いいえ。meet at 9:15、leave at 9:30なら、集合は9時15分、出発は9時30分です。設問の動詞 meet / leave に対応する箇所を探します。

Q. この24問で英検4級の合否が分かりますか？
