A small museum wanted to make its information cards easier to read. The first cards used very small letters and long sentences.

The staff asked twelve visitors to find the opening time using the cards. Only five visitors found it without help.

A group of students suggested larger letters, shorter sentences, and a clear heading. The museum made new cards following these ideas.

The next week, twelve different visitors tried the new cards, and ten found the opening time without help.

One student said that the change proved every visitor would understand the cards. The museum guide disagreed. Only twenty-four visitors had been tested, and they were different people.

The guide said the cards seemed easier to use, but the museum should test them with more people, including visitors who have difficulty reading small text.

The students learned to describe improvements without claiming more than the evidence showed.

  1. What was a problem with the first cards?

    1. The letters were too small.
    2. All cards were missing.
    3. The museum had no opening hours.
    4. The cards were in a different building.
  2. How many of the first twelve visitors found the opening time without help?

    1. Three.
    2. Five.
    3. Ten.
    4. Twelve.
  3. What did the students suggest?

    1. More photographs only.
    2. Using smaller letters.
    3. Larger letters and shorter sentences.
    4. Closing the museum earlier.
  4. How many visitors succeeded with the new cards?

    1. Five.
    2. Eight.
    3. Twelve.
    4. Ten.
  5. Why did the guide want further testing?

    1. Only a small number of different visitors had been tested.
    2. The museum was permanently closed.
    3. The new cards had no headings.
    4. All visitors had already complained.

The first cards used very small letters and long sentences.
