長文1|Interviewing Residents About Local History

Some schools ask students to interview older residents about life in their towns many years ago. These conversations may reveal details that are missing from written reports. Students can also learn how different generations remember the same event and how communities change over time.

Before recording an interview, students explain how they plan to use it and ask for permission. They prepare open questions rather than questions that suggest a particular answer. (18), a student might ask, ‘What was the journey to school like?’ instead of asking whether the old roads were dangerous. This allows the speaker to describe experiences in their own words.

However, human memories are not always complete or accurate. Two residents may remember different dates for a festival or the opening of a local shop. (19), the students compare interview details with newspapers and other records instead of choosing whichever story sounds more interesting.

At the end of the project, students present information that can be supported by evidence. They also identify details that remain uncertain. Recordings are not placed on public websites (20) the interviewees have specifically agreed to that form of sharing.

長文2|Designing Cool Bus Stops

Bus stops in cities can become uncomfortable during hot weather. Some offer little shade, and passengers may have to wait near busy roads. Transport planners are studying whether more shelters, trees, and clear arrival information could make bus travel easier for different groups of residents.

One town installed temporary shade covers at two busy stops and asked passengers about their experience. Staff measured temperatures under the covers and in nearby uncovered areas. (21), they found that passengers reported feeling more comfortable at certain times of day. However, the measurements did not prove that the same covers would work equally well at every stop.

The planners also considered accessibility. A shelter that blocks a narrow pavement could make it more difficult for wheelchair users or parents with pushchairs to pass. (22), the town checked the width of walking routes and asked residents with different needs to test the temporary layout.

Permanent shelters would require construction and future maintenance. Officials planned to examine safety, comfort, passenger numbers, and costs (23) installing the design throughout the town.

長文1|E-mail|Student Newspaper: Editorial Instructions

To: Student Newspaper Editors

From: Ms. Olivia Carter, School Media Coordinator

Subject: Revised deadlines and image permissions

Thank you for preparing the next issue of the Student Newspaper. The original deadline for written articles was Friday, April 17, but the school will be closed that afternoon for maintenance. The online submission deadline has therefore been moved to Thursday, April 16, at 5:00 p.m. The newspaper will still be published on April 24 as planned.

Each article must include a short list of sources for factual claims and identify the dates of any statistics. The editing team may ask writers to clarify figures that are difficult to verify. Please submit images separately from the main text. Permission to use a photograph in a classroom presentation does not automatically allow publication on the newspaper’s public website.

After submitting an article, you will receive an automatic email confirming that the file has arrived. This does not mean the article has been accepted. Editors will check sources, privacy concerns, and image rights before sending a separate approval notice by April 20. Please do not upload the same article repeatedly while it is under review.

The newspaper team will meet at 3:30 p.m. on April 21 to decide the final page order. Students who cannot attend should email the coordinator by April 19. We appreciate your work in making the paper accurate and useful to readers.

問24

長文2|Article|Playgrounds for Different Ages and Abilities

Public playgrounds can help children exercise, play with friends, and spend time outdoors. However, equipment designed for one age group may not suit everyone. Younger children often need simpler structures, while older children may enjoy more challenging activities. Some children also need equipment or paths that can be used with mobility aids.

One town invited families, teachers, and children to test a temporary playground layout. The planners asked visitors how easily they could enter the space and move between different activities. Some parents said the play areas were comfortable, but others found that a narrow entrance made the site difficult to reach with a wheelchair or pushchair.

The town revised the path layout and added a quiet area for children who preferred less noise. It also considered where shade and benches should be placed. These changes were useful for more than one group: a shaded resting area could benefit older visitors, parents, and children who needed a break.

However, a playground cannot be judged only by how many new pieces of equipment it contains. Structures require inspections and repairs, and surfaces may become slippery after rain. Planners therefore compared safety reports, feedback, and ongoing maintenance costs before choosing permanent materials. They also discussed how to make repairs without closing the whole playground.

Researchers recommend observing how families actually use the playground over time. A crowded opening day does not prove that all children can access the equipment comfortably. Long-term value depends on safe design, inclusive routes, useful activities, and resources to maintain the space.

問28

Why might a playground need different kinds of equipment?

  1. Every child enjoys exactly the same activities.
  2. Children have different ages and accessibility needs.
  3. Outdoor exercise is always dangerous.
  4. Playground paths are unnecessary.

B:The entrance was difficult for wheelchairs and pushchairs.。narrow entrance difficult wheelchair/pushchair access。

Why does the article warn against counting equipment alone?

  1. The number of items does not show safety, accessibility, or long-term usefulness.

Writing Part 4|

Some schools have started growing small vegetable gardens as part of science lessons. Students can observe how plants respond to sunlight, soil, and water. They may also learn about where food comes from and why growing it requires careful planning. Working in a garden can give students opportunities to cooperate and record observations over time.

However, a school garden needs space, tools, water, and people who can maintain it during holidays. Not every school has suitable land, and some students may find outdoor work difficult because of physical or environmental conditions. A garden that is poorly maintained may not provide the expected learning benefits.

To address these problems, schools can begin with small containers or accessible growing areas. They may ask community volunteers for help during holidays and offer alternative ways to participate in plant observation. Teachers then evaluate what students actually learn rather than judging success by how many vegetables they grow.

School vegetable gardens can teach students about plant growth, food production, teamwork, and observation. However, they require space, water, tools, holiday maintenance, and accessible activities. Schools can start with small growing areas, involve volunteers, offer alternative participation, and evaluate learning outcomes rather than measuring only harvest size.

Writing Part 5|

TOPIC:Do you think schools should provide more opportunities for students to grow their own food?

I think schools should provide more opportunities for students to grow food. First, gardening can make science lessons more practical. By measuring soil moisture and observing leaves, students can understand how plants respond to their environment. Second, growing vegetables can teach responsibility and teamwork. Students must plan tasks, share tools, and care for plants regularly. However, schools should consider safety, accessibility, and maintenance during holidays. Not every student can do the same outdoor tasks, so teachers should offer different ways to participate. With suitable support, school gardens can be valuable places for learning.
