Situation 1|
Situation: You need to reach a science museum by 10:30 a.m. You use a wheelchair and must avoid any route that requires stairs. You can leave home after 8:45, and you would prefer not to use a taxi.
Announcement: Good morning. The express train leaving Central Station at 9:05 normally reaches Museum Square by 9:40, but the elevators at Museum Square are under maintenance until noon. The local train departing at 9:15 takes 45 minutes and stops at West Gate Station, which has operating elevators. From there, the museum is a ten-minute step-free walk along the riverside path. A replacement shuttle also leaves Central Station at 9:30, but it will not arrive until 10:35. Please note that the pedestrian bridge at Museum Square has steps, while the riverside route from West Gate Station is fully accessible.
Question: Which option best meets your requirements?
- (A) Take the 9:05 express and walk across the pedestrian bridge.
- (B) Take the 9:15 local train to West Gate Station and use the riverside path.
- (C) Take the 9:30 replacement shuttle.
- (D) Wait until noon to use the Museum Square elevators.
Situation 2|
Situation: You are a volunteer presenting at a conference. Your presentation begins at 3:00 p.m., and speakers must register at least 45 minutes before their sessions. You do not need printed conference materials, but you must collect your badge.
Announcement: Registration for speakers is available at the main desk from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. After that time, only general visitor passes will be issued there. Speakers who have already registered may collect replacement badges at the hall entrance until 2:40. The printed conference materials will be available at a separate desk from noon onward. Please be aware that a replacement badge service is not a substitute for the original speaker registration process.
Question: What should you do?
- (A) Register at the main desk by 2:00 p.m.
- (B) Collect only a general visitor pass at 2:30 p.m.
- (C) Wait for replacement-badge service at 2:40 p.m.
- (D) Pick up printed materials at noon and skip registration.
Situation 3|
Situation: You are a university researcher studying public transport. You need detailed route records that include potentially identifiable travel patterns. You have received approval from your ethics committee but have not completed the data provider’s security training.
Announcement: The archive’s open dataset contains route totals and average journey times that anyone can download. Detailed passenger-level records are stored separately. Researchers requesting those files must present ethics approval and complete our security training. Having approval alone does not permit immediate access. The next training session is on Wednesday, and approved participants can request controlled downloads from Thursday onward. Please do not share passenger-level files with colleagues who have not been authorized.
Question: What must you do before accessing the detailed records?
- (A) Download them immediately because ethics approval is sufficient.
- (B) Use the public route totals as if they contained individual records.
- (C) Complete the security training and then request controlled access.
- (D) Ask an unauthorized colleague to obtain the records.
Situation 4|
Situation: You want to examine an original manuscript for an academic article. You can visit the archive only on Friday. You need to see the original pages, not a digital scan.
Announcement: Because of conservation work, original manuscripts may be viewed only by appointment. The digital collection remains accessible throughout the week without booking. On Friday, the original-material reading room will operate from 10:00 until 1:00. Appointment requests must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and confirmation will be sent by Thursday evening. Visitors may arrive at 10:30 or 11:30. Walk-in access is not available, even if the room appears quiet.
Question: Which action will allow you to examine the original manuscript?
- (A) Visit without booking on Friday at 11:30.
- (B) Read the digital scan and treat it as access to the original.
- (C) Request an appointment on Friday morning.
- (D) Submit a request by Wednesday afternoon and wait for confirmation.
Situation 5|
Situation: You are taking a professional development course. You have completed all video lectures and earned 82 percent on the quizzes. You need the formal completion certificate by the end of the month.
Announcement: Participants may review course materials at any time. To receive the formal completion certificate, you must achieve at least 80 percent on the quizzes and attend the live discussion session. Video completion alone does not satisfy that second requirement. The discussion on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. has available seats, but registration closes 24 hours beforehand. A second discussion will be held next month, after the current certification deadline.
Question: What should you do next?
- (A) Assume the certificate is automatic because your quiz score is high enough.
- (B) Register for Tuesday’s live discussion before its registration deadline.
- (C) Wait for next month’s discussion.
- (D) Watch the recorded videos again instead of joining the discussion.
Situation 6|
Situation: You are joining a laboratory project next week. You have completed its online safety test but have never used the laboratory equipment. You must be fully authorized before beginning the experiment.
Announcement: New laboratory members must pass the online safety assessment and attend a supervised equipment orientation before they can work independently. The online assessment is valid for a year, so you do not need to retake it. Orientation sessions will be held this Thursday and next Tuesday. Places for Thursday are still available until noon tomorrow. Please note that attending an orientation does not remove the obligation to follow the laboratory’s written safety procedures.
Question: What should you do to be authorized before the project begins?
- (A) Book the Thursday equipment orientation and attend it.
- (B) Retake the online safety assessment instead.
- (C) Work independently before attending an orientation.
- (D) Wait for Tuesday’s orientation next week even though the experiment begins earlier.
Situation 7|
Situation: You own a small home built more than twenty years ago and plan to improve insulation. The work will start in three weeks. You want to qualify for the city’s grant, and no contractor has begun work yet.
Announcement: Our home-insulation grant is available for qualifying houses built before 2010. Applicants must submit a quotation and receive written approval before renovation work begins. Projects that have already started cannot be reimbursed. The current review period is normally ten working days, although applications with missing documents may take longer. Funding is limited, and approval is not guaranteed until your application is assessed.
Question: What is the most appropriate next step?
- (A) Start work now and submit receipts afterward.
- (B) Assume that house age alone guarantees payment.
- (C) Obtain a quotation and apply for written approval before starting work.
- (D) Wait until renovation is complete before contacting the city.
Situation 8|
Situation: You have an older relative who cannot walk long distances. Heavy rain is expected tonight, and you need to arrange transport to a designated shelter if an evacuation order is issued.
Announcement: All residents can check evacuation updates through our website and recorded telephone line. The designated shelter at the sports center opens if an evacuation order is issued. Residents requiring mobility assistance must contact the support desk in advance, whenever possible, to discuss appropriate transport. The last public bus to the sports center departs at 6:00 p.m., but buses may stop running earlier if roads become unsafe. The support desk does not guarantee immediate collection; arrangements depend on the weather and vehicle availability.
Question: What is the best action now?
- (A) Assume that a city vehicle will automatically arrive immediately.
- (B) Wait for the last bus without asking about accessibility.
- (C) Travel to the sports center even if it has not opened.
- (D) Contact the mobility support desk in advance and keep checking official updates.
Situation 9|
Situation: You are switching careers. You can attend a six-week digital skills course, but you must prove practical competence to receive a government-recognized certificate. You have already attended enough lessons.
Announcement: Course attendance is required but is not the only condition for certification. All applicants must pass the practical assessment, which involves completing three workplace tasks. The optional portfolio workshop is useful preparation, but it does not count as the assessment. The next practical test is on Saturday, and the deadline for reserving a place is Thursday at noon. Candidates who miss the test can apply for the following month’s session.
Question: Which action should you prioritize?
- (A) Register for Saturday’s practical assessment by Thursday noon.
- (B) Attend the optional portfolio workshop instead of the practical test.
- (C) Assume attendance alone earns the certificate.
- (D) Wait until next month because this week’s test cannot be booked.
Situation 10|
Situation: You live outside the city and cannot attend a company’s recruiting event in person. You want to ask questions to a recruiter, rather than watch a recorded presentation.
Announcement: We are offering a live online question-and-answer session on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Attendance is free, but participants must register by Wednesday evening to receive a personal access link. A recording of the general presentation will be uploaded on Friday; however, questions cannot be submitted through the recorded video. There is also an in-person office tour on Saturday, but participation in that tour is optional for all applicants.
Question: How can you speak with a recruiter remotely?
- (A) Wait for Friday’s recording and submit questions through it.
- (B) Register by Wednesday and attend Thursday’s live online session.
- (C) Join Saturday’s office tour remotely without registering.
- (D) Ask the company to waive all event requirements.
