Good morning. Please take a seat. Could you answer a short question before we begin?
Here is a card with five possible topics. Please choose one. You have one minute to prepare your speech. Please do not write notes during this practice.
Your preparation time is over. Please begin your two-minute speech.
Thank you. I will ask you some questions about your topic.
Thank you. That concludes our practice. Please return the topic card.

I use online dictionaries and digital reading materials. They help me check unfamiliar terms, but I still try to understand the ideas independently.

模擬スピーチ(180語の独自モデル):I believe public authorities should explain important decisions that rely on automated systems. There are two main reasons for my view. First, people need to understand decisions that affect their opportunities. For example, an automated system might help review applications for public services. If a person is rejected without a clear explanation, it may be difficult to correct inaccurate information or challenge an unfair result. Explanation can make the process more accountable. Second, transparent procedures can help authorities identify errors and improve their systems. Even a tool that processes information quickly may produce inaccurate or inconsistent results. Officials should therefore examine whether the recommendations are reliable and whether different groups are treated fairly. Of course, revealing every technical detail could create security or privacy problems. I am not suggesting that sensitive information must be published. Instead, authorities should explain the main factors behind decisions, provide a way to appeal and review the systems regularly. In conclusion, automation can make public services more efficient, but efficiency alone is not enough. Citizens also deserve decisions that are understandable and open to correction.

  • A1:They might increase some administrative work. However, clear explanations can also reduce repeated complaints and help officials identify recurring mistakes. The goal is to balance speed with accountability.
  • A2:They may not need to understand every technical detail. An explanation of the main factors, the evidence considered and how to request a review would often be more practical.
  • A3:Authorities could protect sensitive details while still explaining the basis of individual decisions. Full publication of source code is not the only form of transparency.
  • A4:Requirements should depend on how seriously a decision affects people. A recommendation about a film is different from a decision about employment, credit or essential services.

Helping to organize a school event taught me how to plan tasks and communicate with other people.

模擬スピーチ(182語の独自モデル):I support giving students opportunities to receive academic credit for well-designed community volunteering, but participation should not become an inflexible requirement. My first reason is that practical activities can help students apply what they learn in class. For instance, assisting at a local library may encourage students to think about communication, public services and access to information. Such experiences can deepen their understanding of social issues. My second reason is that volunteering can help students develop responsibility and teamwork. Students may discover problems in their communities that are not obvious from textbooks alone. However, a fair system must recognize that students have different family responsibilities, health conditions and travel options. Simply counting the number of volunteer hours could unfairly reward those who have more free time. Schools should therefore offer several forms of participation and assess what students learned, rather than treating attendance as the only measure of success. In addition, community organizations need support so that students can contribute safely and meaningfully. Overall, I believe carefully structured volunteering can enrich education, provided it remains accessible and its learning goals are clear.

  • A5:It could if students focus only on collecting hours. Schools could ask learners to reflect on what they contributed and learned, rather than rewarding time alone.
  • A6:They should have meaningful alternatives, including activities that can be completed closer to home or during school hours. An inflexible requirement could deepen existing inequalities.
  • A7:They could use clear goals, short reflections and feedback from supervisors. The quality of participation matters more than simply recording a large number of hours.
  • A8:It might if poorly planned. The activities should have a limited workload and connect clearly to educational objectives instead of adding unnecessary tasks.

I use both. Digital books are convenient for searching, while printed books can be easier for sustained reading.

模擬スピーチ(182語の独自モデル):I think local governments may have good reasons to support independent bookstores, although the support should be limited and carefully evaluated. My first reason is that small bookstores can provide cultural and educational value beyond the immediate sale of books. They may introduce readers to unfamiliar authors, organize discussions and create spaces where people exchange ideas. This can be especially useful in communities with few cultural facilities. My second reason is that independent shops contribute to the character of a neighborhood. A street with a variety of small businesses may offer residents more choices than an area dominated by a single type of retail. However, I would not argue that every struggling store deserves permanent financial assistance. Public money is limited, and online retailers also offer important benefits, including convenience and broad selection. Governments could instead support shared cultural events, accessible public spaces or temporary programs that help stores adapt. They should then assess who benefits and whether the results justify the costs. In conclusion, I favor targeted support for the public value of bookstores rather than unlimited subsidies for individual businesses.

  • A9:Public support would need to be justified by broader benefits, such as educational events or cultural access. If those benefits cannot be demonstrated, continued funding would be harder to defend.
  • A10:Yes. That is why criteria should be transparent and tied to public goals rather than personal preferences for a particular business.
  • A11:They can be more convenient and offer wider selection. My argument is not to replace them but to preserve some community activities that online transactions may not provide.
  • A12:They could assess attendance at educational events, access for residents and community benefits, while also considering financial costs.

I am interested in environmental science because it combines questions about nature with practical decisions about society.

模擬スピーチ(189語の独自モデル):I believe governments should fund some scientific research even when there is no immediate commercial application. My first reason is that basic research can produce knowledge that later supports important discoveries. Scientists often investigate questions before anyone knows how the answers might be used. If funding depended entirely on short-term profit, valuable lines of inquiry could be neglected. My second reason is that knowledge can benefit people beyond the organization that produces it. Research findings may help universities, schools and businesses develop new ideas, even if the original team cannot earn revenue from every use. This gives public institutions a reason to support certain projects. At the same time, research budgets are not unlimited. Funding bodies should evaluate the quality of proposed methods, ethical concerns and whether results can be checked by others. They should also explain why a project deserves support compared with other public needs. I am not claiming that every scientific project should receive a grant. Rather, governments should maintain a balanced portfolio of research with clear oversight. The benefits of basic science may take time to appear, but their potential social value deserves serious consideration.

  • A13:They can examine the quality of the methods, whether the questions are important and whether independent experts can review the work. Commercial profit is not the only possible indicator.
  • A14:Not automatically. Governments must compare urgent needs with long-term benefits. A balanced budget can support necessary services while reserving some resources for future knowledge.
  • A15:Some projects will not produce the expected result, but an unsuccessful experiment can still improve understanding. Accountability requires clear aims and honest reporting, not guaranteed success.
  • A16:Yes, partnerships may be useful when interests align. However, public funding may still be needed for research whose benefits are widely shared and difficult for one firm to capture.

I would like to improve my ability to explain complex information clearly and respond to questions in English.

模擬スピーチ(181語の独自モデル):I believe employers should place greater emphasis on demonstrated skills, while still recognizing that university degrees can provide useful information. First, the tasks required for a job are not always measured by the name of an institution or the degree a candidate holds. A well-designed practical test may reveal how an applicant solves problems, communicates and applies knowledge. This could help employers identify capable people with different educational backgrounds. Second, giving more weight to practical ability may encourage lifelong learning. Workers who gain new skills through experience or independent study should have opportunities to demonstrate what they can do. Nevertheless, degrees remain important in professions that require formal training, and practical assessments also have limitations. A test that does not reflect actual work could produce misleading results. Employers should therefore combine relevant qualifications, structured interviews and suitable work samples. They should also ensure that the process is accessible and that the standards are consistent for all applicants. My position is not that degrees have no value. Rather, hiring decisions should consider credible evidence of what candidates know and can actually do.

  • A17:It can use work samples related closely to the position and apply the same clear criteria to all applicants. The assessment should be reviewed for bias and relevance.
  • A18:Certainly, especially for regulated professions and roles requiring extensive academic preparation. My argument is that a degree should not always be the sole indicator of capability.
  • A19:It could if tests assume extensive work experience. Entry-level assessments should focus on abilities appropriate for beginners and allow different ways to demonstrate potential.
  • A20:Yes. Companies should choose proportionate methods. A short, relevant exercise may be enough for some positions, while more demanding assessments may be justified for specialized work.

That is a fair point. However, …
