I don’t know whether to go.は自然な英文ですが、I don’t know if to go.は通常使いません。 whetherはto不定詞と直接結び、選択の迷いを表せます。またWe talked about whether to go.のように前置詞の後に置く場合やwhether or not to goの形を、独自30問・全訳・解説で練習します。

3つの文型
whether＋to不定詞：I don’t know whether to go.（行くべきか分からない）。前置詞＋whether：We discussed whether to go.／We talked about whether to go.。whether or not＋to不定詞：We haven’t decided whether or not to go.。なお、I don’t know if I should go.のようにif＋主語＋助動詞という節は正しいので、ifそのものが禁止されるわけではありません。
whetherとifの違いを明確にする
I don’t know if I should go.（行くべきか分からない）とI don’t know whether to go.（行くかどうか迷っている）は近い意味です。ただしif to goは不可、about if to goも不可です。「if＋完全な節」と「whether＋不定詞」を区別してください。
