Paragraph 1

At South Meadow School, a class planned to give short English presentations in the assembly hall. Some students sitting near the back said they could not always hear the words clearly. The teacher suggested a small classroom test rather than assuming that everyone had the same experience. She prepared a list of twelve common English words and asked one volunteer to read them aloud at a comfortable speaking level. Another student would record how many words a listener wrote correctly. The class selected two seats: Seat A near the front and Seat B near the back wall. It also agreed that the reader should use the same list and try to keep the speaking speed steady. The teacher explained that the activity was a simplified lesson about communication, not a professional hearing test or a measurement of safe sound levels.

A3. 前方。|根拠:near the front

A4. |根拠:near the back wall

A5. 違う。|根拠:not a professional hearing test

Paragraph 2

In the first trial, a volunteer listened in Seat A and correctly wrote eleven of the twelve words. Another listener in Seat B wrote eight correctly. A student immediately concluded that the back wall had caused the difference. The teacher asked what else might have changed between the two trials. Different listeners had been used, and they might have had different familiarity with the chosen English words. The speaker could also have changed her speed slightly without noticing. The class therefore reported the observed scores but did not claim that the seat alone explained them. The students also calculated that Seat A’s listener had written three more words correctly than Seat B’s listener. They avoided describing a score of eight as proof that a student was poor at English, because the activity was not designed to make that judgment.

A9. 使った。 Different listeners had been used

A10. |根拠:different familiarity with the chosen English words

Paragraph 3

The teacher then changed the procedure for a second trial. The same listener moved between Seat A and Seat B, and the reader used a new set of twelve words of similar difficulty for each position. The class asked the reader to keep the speaking rate as consistent as possible. This time the listener wrote ten words correctly near the front and nine near the back. The difference was smaller than before, but the teacher cautioned that the word lists were not necessarily identical in difficulty. The results did not prove that the two seats offered exactly the same listening conditions. A group proposed placing a soft panel near the back wall to see whether reflected sound might be reduced. The teacher said they could only describe this as a proposed change until it had been tested. No panel results were available.

|根拠:ten words correctly near the front

|根拠:nine near the back

A15. No panel results were available

Paragraph 4

Before considering the panel, students interviewed several speakers who had presented in the hall. One said that speaking more slowly had helped an audience follow her explanation. Another said that pointing to written keywords on a screen had made the presentation easier to understand. The class discussed the difference between making sound louder and making a message clearer. A louder voice could help in some situations, but the lesson had not measured what volume would be appropriate. The teacher refused to recommend an exact setting without professional advice. Instead, the students prepared a checklist for speakers: use clear sentences, show important terms, leave time between ideas, and ask whether the audience can follow. These were communication choices, not a claim about the hall’s technical acoustic performance.

Paragraph 5

For the next school presentation, the group made a report that separated the first and second trials. The first had used different listeners and had produced scores of eleven and eight. The second had used the same listener and had produced scores of ten and nine. The report did not say that the later test had solved the problem or that a particular seat was unsafe. It explained which variables were controlled more carefully and which remained uncertain. The students also noted that individual differences in listening could not be judged from these short trials. The teacher praised their decision to present the exact observations, the proposed improvements, and the limits of the data separately. A good English report, she said, should help readers understand a problem without exaggerating what a small experiment had proved.

Paragraph 1

Paragraph 2

Paragraph 3

Paragraph 4

Paragraph 5
