独自Read|Paragraph 1

At Greenfield School, the environmental club arranged a clothing swap to help families reuse items that were still in good condition. Students could bring clean clothes that no longer fitted them and choose other items without paying money. The club explained that the event was an exchange, not an ordinary shop. During the first collection day, eighty items were donated. Volunteers checked each item before placing it on a display table. Six items were too damaged to offer, so only seventy-four were considered suitable for the event. The students wrote these figures in a record and marked the unsuitable pieces for a separate discussion about repair or recycling. The teacher warned them not to describe eighty items as available to visitors. Donated items and usable items were not necessarily the same group.

独自Read|Paragraph 2

Before the swap opened, the club created a simple reservation system. Each visitor could reserve at most two items for one hour, but a reservation did not mean that the clothes had been collected. If a reserved item was not picked up within the hour, it would become available to someone else. On Tuesday, twelve visitors made reservations covering twenty items. By the end of the first hour, only sixteen of those items had been collected. Four reserved items were released back to the available table. One volunteer proudly wrote, ‘Twenty items were given to visitors.’ The club leader corrected the sentence. Twenty reservations had been made, but only sixteen completed collections had been recorded. The difference mattered because visitors who arrived later could still choose from the four released items.

独自Read|Paragraph 3

During the afternoon, a student found that a jacket marked medium was smaller than another jacket with the same label. She complained that the event’s signs were inaccurate. The teacher explained that clothing sizes could differ among brands and that a label was not a complete measurement. Volunteers therefore began adding the width and length of some items to the display cards. They also asked visitors to check each item before collecting it, instead of assuming that one letter guaranteed a good fit. The club did not promise that every person would find the right size. It offered a place to compare items and make an informed choice. This change made the signs more useful without pretending that one measurement could describe every aspect of how a piece of clothing felt.

独自Read|Paragraph 4

The club then reviewed how to manage the exchange fairly. Some visitors wanted to reserve clothes for several days, but this would leave fewer choices for students who could attend only after school. The organizers kept the one-hour limit and posted the exact time when a reservation would end. They also added a rule that items already collected could not be reserved by someone else. A student suggested giving an advantage to visitors who had donated the greatest number of clothes. Other members pointed out that some families had no spare clothes to donate, even though they needed items. After discussion, the group decided that donating was welcome but not a condition for receiving clothes. The aim was to support reuse and access, not reward the wealthiest donors.

独自Read|Paragraph 5

At the end of the event, the club wrote a report that separated five categories: items donated, items considered usable, items reserved, items collected, and items returned to availability after a reservation expired. It gave the figures for the first collection day and the first hour of reservations without claiming that they represented the entire event. The teacher asked the students to explain the difference between a rule, a record, and a future plan. The one-hour reservation limit was a rule; sixteen collected items were a recorded result; improving the size labels next year was a plan. The club also described what it had not measured, including how many visitors had found clothes that truly fitted them. The students learned that an honest report could be useful without pretending that every question had already been answered.

Paragraph 1|

Paragraph 2|

Paragraph 3|

Paragraph 4|

Paragraph 5|
