Dear members, The West Hill Library will hold a repair workshop next month. Volunteers will help visitors repair small objects instead of throwing them away. In our first workshop, most visitors brought broken toys, but this time we expect more people with small household items. Participants must describe the problem when they register online. This will help our volunteers prepare the right tools. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday morning; however, the library will be used for a children’s festival then. The workshop will take place on Sunday from two to four in the afternoon. Anyone aged thirteen or younger must attend with an adult. There is no fee, but each family can bring only one item so that everyone has enough time to ask questions. We cannot promise that every object will be repaired successfully.
A student group planned an online meeting with young people in another country. Their first idea was to prepare long presentations about their hometowns. But several students said they might become nervous because they could not remember everything they wanted to say. A teacher suggested making a short photo tour and asking the guests questions instead. The group prepared five pictures of local places and wrote one question for each picture. During the meeting, one guest explained that a similar building in her town was used as a library rather than a museum. This surprised the students, who had assumed that buildings with similar shapes always had similar uses. After the meeting, the group did not simply write that foreign towns were different. They compared the purposes of the buildings and discussed how each community decided what it needed. For the next meeting, they plan to invite guests to ask questions first so the conversation can become more balanced.
- Why did some students dislike the original plan?
(A) They had no pictures / (B) They might forget parts of long presentations / (C) The guests refused to attend / (D) The teacher wanted to stop the meeting
- What did the group prepare after the teacher’s suggestion?

At a community school, students noticed that a lot of food was left on lunch trays. They decided to study the problem rather than immediately tell everyone to eat more. During the first week, the school recorded about ninety kilograms of leftover food. The students then interviewed several classes. Some children said the portions were too large, while others explained that they did not know what ingredients were used in unfamiliar dishes. For the next four weeks, the school displayed ingredient cards and allowed students to choose between two portion sizes. The amount of leftover food fell to about sixty-three kilograms per week. The students were pleased, but they did not claim that the cards alone had caused the change. Different menus and the number of students absent could also have affected the results. Next term, the students will compare similar menus and record how many students eat lunch each day.
- How much leftover food was recorded in the first week?
(A) 27 kilograms / (B) 63 kilograms / (C) 90 kilograms / (D) 153 kilograms
- Why did some children leave food?
(A) The plates were too small / (B) The portions were too large / (C) They had already eaten lunch at home / (D) They did not like the teachers
- What two changes did the school introduce?
(A) More homework and shorter lunch / (B) Ingredient cards and two portion sizes / (C) Free desserts and new seats / (D) Different teachers and new books
- How many kilograms less food were left per week after the changes?
(A) 17 / (B) 23 / (C) 27 / (D) 37
- Why did students avoid saying that the cards alone caused the decrease?
(A) They lost the records / (B) Other factors might have affected the result / (C) They disliked the project / (D) They had no ingredient cards
A youth museum asked students to create an exhibition about the history of local transportation. In the beginning, the students wrote very long descriptions next to each object. Visitors spent a long time reading, and many left before reaching the last display. One student suggested dividing each description into two parts: a short main message and an optional section with more details. The students also added pictures showing how people used the objects in the past. After the changes, more visitors reached the final display. However, the group wanted to know whether visitors had actually learned more, so they prepared three short questions that people could answer when leaving. The answers showed that visitors remembered the main ideas better, but many still confused the dates of two train models. Instead of adding more text everywhere, the students decided to place a simple timeline beside those models. Their experience taught them that information should be organized around what visitors need to understand.
- What problem did the first exhibition have?
(A) There were no objects / (B) Many visitors left before the final display / (C) The museum was closed / (D) Students refused to write
- How did the students change the descriptions?
(A) They removed all writing / (B) They made every description longer / (C) They separated a short main message from optional details / (D) They used only dates
- Why did the students prepare three questions?
(A) To test whether visitors understood more / (B) To choose a new museum director / (C) To sell train tickets / (D) To count staff members
- What did many visitors still confuse?
(A) The colors of doors / (B) The dates of two train models / (C) The price of a ticket / (D) The name of the museum
- What did the students finally decide to add?
(A) A simple timeline beside the models / (B) More text everywhere / (C) Three new train engines / (D) A longer entrance speech
