事実と推測観察だけで原因を断定may / might / not proveを区別
だけで終わるI think … because …

や I prefer … because …

At a school library, students discussed whether every textbook should become digital. Rina said digital books were useful because students could search for words quickly and carry fewer heavy books. She also liked changing the text size on a screen. Yuto agreed that these features were helpful, but he explained that some students got tired when looking at screens for a long time. He preferred paper when he wanted to draw notes beside a paragraph. Their teacher asked them to avoid choosing a single winner. Instead, they designed a short survey. They asked students which type of book they used for reading stories, checking facts, and preparing for a test. At the end, Rina said that digital books might be better for searching, while paper could be useful for careful reading. Yuto added that schools should make both options available when possible. Neither student had proved that one type of book always led to higher test scores.

問1. What topic were the students discussing?

問2. Give one advantage of digital books that Rina mentioned.

問3. Why did Yuto sometimes prefer paper?

問4. What did the teacher ask the students to design?

問5. What three reading situations did the survey ask about?

問6. Did the students prove digital books always improve scores?

"might be better"は断定ですか。

A student committee noticed that food was left on many lunch trays. Some members wanted the school to give everyone smaller meals. Others said students needed different amounts of food because they had different activities and appetites. The committee first measured how much food was left after lunch for one week. They found that rice was often left, but vegetables were usually finished. This did not mean students disliked all rice. It might mean the portions were too large on some days. The committee suggested starting with a choice between a small and a regular portion, with extra food available for students who were still hungry. They also planned to ask the kitchen staff whether the idea was practical. The class agreed to try the system for two weeks and collect information again. They hoped to waste less food without leaving any student hungry.

問11. What problem did the committee notice?

問12. Why did some students oppose smaller meals for everyone?

問13. How long did the committee first measure leftovers?

問14. Which type of food was often left?

問15. Does the result prove that every student dislikes rice?

問16. What two portion sizes did the committee suggest?

問17. Could students ask for more food?

問18. Whom would the committee ask about the plan?

A town invited middle school students to create an online guide for visitors. Haru’s team chose a quiet park. Their first page had a large photograph and the words, "The best park in Japan." Their adviser said the photograph was beautiful but the claim was too strong without evidence. She asked them to explain what visitors could actually do there. The students added that visitors could walk around a pond and read signs about local birds. Another student suggested including information about the nearest bus stop and whether the paths were easy to use with a wheelchair. The team interviewed a park worker and checked the town’s official map. They then replaced "best" with more specific descriptions. At the end, Haru said the guide should help visitors make their own decisions rather than tell them that the park was perfect.

問21. What did the town invite students to create?

問22. Which place did Haru’s team choose?

問23. Why did the adviser question the words "best park"?

問24. What could visitors do around the pond?

問25. What could visitors learn from the signs?

問26. What transport information did a student suggest adding?

問27. Who did the team interview?

問28. What official resource did the team check?

Students at a fictional school were asked how they wanted to use an empty room after class. One group suggested a silent study room. Another wanted a place for group discussions and short presentations. A teacher noted that both types of learning were important, but noise could disturb students who needed to concentrate. The students looked at the timetable and found that the room was available until five. They proposed using it as a quiet space from three to four and as a group-work area from four to five. However, a student pointed out that some club members arrived only after four and still wanted a quiet place. The committee then suggested using folding screens to create two small areas. The teacher asked students to test the plan and ask users for feedback, because a plan that sounds good on paper may not work in practice.

問31. What room did the students discuss?

問32. What did the first group want?

問33. What did the second group want?

問34. Why might noise be a problem?

問35. Until what time was the room available?

問36. What did students first suggest doing from three to four?

問37. Why was the first timetable plan not enough?

問38. What did the committee suggest using to divide the room?

問39. Why did the teacher want the plan to be tested?
