NEW TREASURE Stage4

(Who, When, Why, How many, Which condition)。

At Harbord High School, a research presentation day was planned for May 20. The event was open to students in grades ten and eleven, including students who had never presented before. Each applicant had to submit an application form and a safety checklist by 5:00 p.m. on April 18. The committee received seventy-two applications but could accept only fifty presentations. It would evaluate proposals for clarity and feasibility, not choose presenters by lottery. The selection results would be emailed on May 3. Successful applicants had to confirm their place by May 6, or the committee might offer it to someone on the waiting list. The school would provide shared display materials, but participants would arrange and pay for their own transport. Practical demonstrations were permitted only when a supervising teacher was present. One student’s proposal involved a miniature water filter; the committee asked the student to explain how waste water would be handled. These details were presented in a guide intended to help applicants understand the process, not to promise anyone a place.

Passage B|

A school library normally closed at 5:00 p.m., although some students wanted more time to study after club activities. Its committee invited 180 students who regularly used the library to answer a survey; 120 students replied. Seventy-two respondents supported trying longer opening hours, while forty-eight preferred the existing schedule. The survey did not include students who never entered the library. Rather than promise a permanent change, the school arranged a four-week trial on Tuesdays and Thursdays, keeping the library open until 6:00 p.m. during those days. Staff counted eighty-six visits in the first week, but some students visited more than once. The committee therefore did not call that figure eighty-six distinct people. A separate question asked for study-space improvements, and several students requested quieter rooms. During the trial, staff also recorded when seats were full and whether extra supervision was needed. The principal authorized the trial but reserved the decision on a permanent timetable until the data and staffing costs had been reviewed.

Passage C|

The Meadow Museum prepared a temporary exhibition of local photographs. The exhibition would open on September 10 and remain in the main gallery for six weeks. The staff selected twenty photographs from an archive, although five lacked an exact date. An archive volunteer helped identify the locations shown in several images. One photograph was believed to show a bridge in 1974, but a handwritten label might refer to the year when the image was donated instead of when it was taken. The curators therefore described its date as uncertain. The museum had permission to display the physical prints inside the building, not to publish digital copies on a public website. It contacted the rights holder to request separate online permission and left the images off the site while awaiting a response. Visitors were able to read written descriptions of the items online. The museum also arranged a quiet viewing hour on Wednesday mornings. These measures were meant to make the exhibition informative without confusing guesses, permissions and confirmed facts.

Passage D|

A student team submitted a proposal to study how shade affected temperatures around the school garden. Four students worked with a science teacher who served as their adviser. The team requested 24,600 yen from a fictional project fund, which had a limit of 30,000 yen per team. Its budget included three thermometers, four notebooks and shared measuring equipment; personal lunch costs were not eligible. The students intended to record temperatures for fourteen school days and compare sites with and without shade. They planned to note the time and weather conditions with each measurement. An instrument failure would be recorded as missing data, not as a temperature of zero. Although the fund approved the application, the committee explained that approval did not prove the team’s hypothesis. The students were instructed to keep original records, report unexpected results and obtain permission before posting photographs of participants. Their final presentation was scheduled for July 12, but conclusions would depend on the measurements actually made.

Who / When / How many / What conditionなど、似た事実でも尋ねる情報の種類が違います。
