  • may / could / not confirmed / does not guaranteeを『確定済み』と訳さない
Thank you for … / Could you confirm …? / We will …

1:Email 1 — To: Presentation Team | From: Ms. Takeda | Subject: Friday’s research presentations. Our fictional school will hold research presentations on Friday, November 13, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 204. Please submit your presentation outline by Wednesday, November 11, at noon. You may use charts, but any figures that were not measured in your research must be described as estimates.

2:Email 2 — To: Presentation Team | From: Ms. Takeda | Subject: Updated room and arrival time. Because Room 204 is needed for another class, the presentations will now take place in Room 305. The starting time remains 3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 13, but presenters should arrive by 3:15 p.m. to check their slides. The outline deadline has not changed. Please acknowledge this update by Thursday evening.

3:Email 3 — To: Ms. Takeda | From: Student Mei | Subject: Re: Updated room and arrival time. Thank you for the update. I understand that the presentation begins at 3:30 p.m. in Room 305 and that I should be there by 3:15 p.m. I will submit my outline before noon on Wednesday and confirm this change today.

1:Email 1 — To: Student Research Group | From: Library Coordinator | Subject: Survey figures. In our fictional three-week library trial, 90 students were invited to answer a survey. Fifty-four replied, and thirty-six respondents said the extended hours were helpful. The booking system separately recorded 140 reservations. Some students reserved seats more than once; a booking count is not a count of individual library users.

2:Email 2 — To: Library Coordinator | From: Student Aki | Subject: Re: Survey figures. Thank you for the figures. We would like to write, ‘Eighty percent of all students supported longer hours, and 140 different students used the library.’ Is this summary accurate? We also want to state that test scores improved, although our group has not collected any score data.

3:Email 3 — To: Student Aki | From: Library Coordinator | Subject: Re: Survey figures. Please revise that summary. Thirty-six out of fifty-four respondents, or about two-thirds, found the hours helpful; these respondents are not necessarily representative of all students. The 140 figure records reservations, not distinct individuals. Since no test scores were measured, the survey does not demonstrate improved academic performance. You may report the observations and describe their limitations.

1:Email 1 — To: Student Exhibition Committee | From: Community Archive | Subject: Interview material. Our fictional archive can share five interview transcripts for your educational exhibition. Permission to read or quote an excerpt in class does not automatically grant permission to publish a person’s voice online. Please submit a description of the proposed use before choosing any audio clips.

2:Email 2 — To: Community Archive | From: Student Committee | Subject: Re: Interview material. We plan to play one short recording at the school exhibition and share the same clip on the class website. We already have written permission to quote the interview in a printed handout. Does that permission cover both audio uses? Also, one transcript includes an outdated address.

3:Email 3 — To: Student Committee | From: Community Archive | Subject: Permissions and corrections. No. The written-quotation permission does not by itself authorise playing or publishing the recording. We will check the participant’s separate audio consent and the scope of the proposed uses. Until that is confirmed, please use a newly written summary rather than the recording. We will also review the outdated address and remove personal details from public materials as appropriate.

1:Email 1 — To: Interested Students | From: University Visit Office | Subject: Fictional open-campus workshop. The campus will offer two short workshops on Saturday, December 5. Session A begins at 10:00 a.m. and Session B begins at 1:30 p.m. Each session has twenty seats. Registration closes on Monday, November 30, at 5:00 p.m. Students may request one session only.

2:Email 2 — To: Registered Students | From: University Visit Office | Subject: Capacity update. Session A is now full, while Session B has four seats remaining. A waiting list is available for Session A, but joining it does not guarantee a place. Students who cannot attend should cancel by Thursday, December 3, at noon so that available seats can be offered to other students. The workshop dates and start times have not changed.

3:Email 3 — To: University Visit Office | From: Student Jun | Subject: Registration question. I registered for Session B, but I may have a school event that afternoon. Could I switch to Session A automatically if somebody cancels? If I cannot attend either session, should I cancel before noon on Thursday? Please let me know whether the waiting list guarantees a seat.
