先に理解したい重要ポイント
according to＋名詞 「〜によれば」と情報源を明示する。書き手自身の確証とは限らない。
claim that＋節 主張する、という事実と主張内容の真偽を分離する。
admit that＋節 認める。発言者が不都合な事実などを認める文脈に使われる。
deny that＋節 / deny doing 否定する。否定された内容が実際に起きたかどうかは別に確認。

A school newspaper investigated a proposal to keep its study rooms open for an extra hour. The student council president claimed that the change would help pupils who traveled a long way to school. She cited a survey in which 42 of 60 respondents said they wanted a later closing time. However, the survey had been shared mainly with members of two after-school clubs. According to the head librarian, the rooms were already almost empty by six on most weekdays. He admitted that the library had not counted visitors during the examination period, when demand might be different. A parent representative denied that the existing timetable was unfair to all families. She argued that students without late buses could not easily use a longer opening time. The newspaper asked the principal for a final decision. The principal said the school would run a two-week trial in January but had not approved a permanent change. The article reported these statements separately. Its conclusion was that the opinions revealed useful concerns but did not yet establish whether extending the hours would benefit the majority of students. A decision after the trial would require visitor counts and information about transport.

初見長文の全文和訳

間違いを分析する
claimは発言の報告であり、必ずしも事実確認済みを意味しません。denyは「何を否定したか」を丁寧に取り、all familiesのallを落とさないでください。調査の42/60は全生徒の42/60ではなく回答者60人の数字です。
