What we need=必要なもの、Whoever registers=登録する人なら誰でも、whichever option=選択肢のうちどれでも、however carefully=どんなに慎重に〜しても。
A fictional school offered two optional writing workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. What the organizer wanted most was a clear registration process. Students could choose whichever session fitted their schedule, but each session had only twenty seats. Whoever registered by the deadline would be considered for a place; registration alone would not guarantee acceptance. The office promised to explain the selection process to anyone who asked. A student believed that the word whoever meant that every student had already been accepted. The teacher corrected this interpretation because the condition referred only to eligibility for consideration. What the final notice made clear was that the school would send individual acceptance messages later. The office received thirty applications for the morning session and twenty-six for the afternoon. These were application counts, not necessarily the number of distinct students, because one person could apply to both workshops.
3. What the organizer wanted mostのwhatは何を表しますか。
Whoever registered…
A fictional science club surveyed students about a new study room. What the club found surprising was that most comments concerned noise rather than the number of seats. The room contained thirty seats, but some students could not concentrate because conversations could be heard from the corridor. The teacher said, ‘Whatever solution we adopt, we must check whether it improves conditions for different learners.’ A group proposed installing a screen, while another suggested changing the room schedule. The committee allowed students to choose whichever proposal they believed had stronger evidence, but reminded them that opinions did not establish which proposal would work. Whoever evaluated the trial would need to compare actual noise measurements and student experiences. A student wrote that the club had proved the screen was effective. The teacher rejected the claim because the screen had not yet been installed. The report described two proposals, not two completed interventions.
11. What the club found surprisingのwhatは何を受けていますか。

During a fictional school’s research contest, three teams presented proposals. The judges explained that whichever team received the highest verified score would be invited to present again. However carefully the students prepared their slides, they still had to provide sources for important claims. One team used a graph that showed thirty responses, but the speaker mistakenly described it as thirty participants. A judge asked the team to clarify what the graph measured. Another judge said that whatever happened in the contest, the students should keep the original data available for checking. The judges evaluated each proposal using the same criteria, but the final scores had not been announced. Some students treated the preliminary comments as a final ranking. The organizer reminded them that preliminary feedback was not an official result. What mattered for the decision was the verified score, not the number of encouraging remarks received during a presentation.

A fictional school compared an online information session and an in-person session. The online event had forty registrations and thirty-two actual attendees. The in-person event had thirty registrations and twenty-seven attendees. The organizer said, ‘However convenient the online option may be, it cannot replace every face-to-face activity.’ In this sentence, however introduced a concession about the degree of convenience. Later, the report said, ‘The online session reached more attendees. However, it did not measure how much they understood.’ In this second sentence, however marked a contrast with the previous statement. The committee encouraged students to choose whichever format suited their needs, subject to available places. It also promised to explain the rules to whoever requested clarification. The school did not conclude that either format was better for every student. It planned to collect more evidence before expanding the program.
