結論｜turn on・off・up・downの違いと代名詞の位置
- turn on：Turn on the computer.／Turn it on.（機器をつける）。
- turn off：Turn off the computer.／Turn it off.（機器を消す）。
- turn up：Turn up the volume.／Turn it up.（音量を上げる）。
- turn down：Turn down the volume.／Turn it down.（音量を下げる）。
- 別の意味：turn down an offer（申し出を断る）。
- 名詞と代名詞：turn the light off／turn off the lightの両方が可能。代名詞はturn it offで、turn off itとはしない。
これは分離できる句動詞の代表例です。『the projector』のような名詞ならturn on the projectorもturn the projector onも可能ですが、『it』のような代名詞は必ず間に置きます。発表資料のReadでは電源の状態と音量の設定、そして申し出への返答を混同しないことが大切です。

オリジナル英文：At Willow Creek School, the broadcasting club prepared an audio presentation. Before the meeting, Ken turned on the projector and checked the computer. The speaker was working, but its volume was at level eight, which was too loud for the small room. The teacher asked Ken to turn it down to level four. Later, the recorded explanation was difficult to hear, so he turned up the playback volume from level four to level six. During practice, someone offered to bring another speaker, but the club turned down the offer because the existing equipment was enough.
