結論|hard/hardlyとlate/latelyの違い
- hard:We studied hard.(懸命に勉強した)。
- hardly:I could hardly hear her.(ほとんど聞こえなかった)。
hardly no/hardly neverの二重否定を避ける。
- late:The bus arrived late.(遅れて到着)。
- lately:I’ve been busy lately.(最近忙しい)。

At Springhill School, the debate club was preparing for a presentation. Its members had been practising hard lately because they wanted to speak more clearly. On Monday, Leo arrived ten minutes late after his bus was delayed. He hardly had any time to read the updated instructions before practice began. As a result, he missed an important detail about the speaking order. The teacher explained the change again, and Leo took notes. During the next two weeks, he worked hard on listening and answering questions. He hardly ever missed practice, but that did not mean he had attended every session. The final meeting started late because another group was still using the room. At the end of the meeting, the club agreed on a schedule for its presentation. Twelve students registered to watch, but the actual number of visitors was not yet known. The club decided to check attendance instead of assuming that everyone would come.
問33:How had the club members been practising lately?
問34:How late did Leo arrive on Monday?
問35:Why did Leo hardly have time to read the updated instructions?
問36:What important detail did Leo miss?
問37:What did Leo work hard on during the next two weeks?
問38:Does ‘hardly ever missed practice’ prove perfect attendance?
問39:Why did the final meeting start late?
問40:Action: Write two sentences using ‘hard’ and ‘lately’ to describe the club’s preparation.
