compromise(妥協案)とagreement(合意)の違い
Aya prefers Monday. / Ken prefers Friday.
|---|---|
| I would prefer … |
| That’s a fair point. |
| Could we choose … instead? |
| I can accept … if …
| We agree on …
| We still need approval. |
| The proposal has not been approved. |

Aya: I would like to give our presentation on Monday because I have practice on Friday.
Ken: I prefer Friday. I have a class on Monday, so Monday is difficult for me.
Yui: I see. Both of you want enough time to prepare, don't you?
Aya: Yes. I also want everyone to join the presentation.
Ken: I agree. Could we choose Wednesday instead? Both Aya and I are free that day.
Yui: The classroom is available on Wednesday at four, according to our room schedule. But we still need the teacher's approval.
Aya: Wednesday at four works for me. I can finish my slides by Tuesday.
Ken: It works for me, too. We should ask the teacher before announcing it.
Yui: Then we have a group proposal: Wednesday at four. It's not an approved school schedule yet.
- Q1:Which day did Aya prefer at first?
- Q2:Why was Friday difficult for Aya?
- Q3:Which day did Ken prefer at first?

- Q6:Which alternative day did Ken suggest?
- Q7:At what time was the room available?
- Q8:Did both students accept the Wednesday proposal?
- Q9:Was the Wednesday schedule already approved by the teacher?
- Q10:Write one sentence using ‘although’ about the result.
Mina: I think our exhibition poster should include many large photographs. Pictures help visitors understand the topic.
Ryo: I agree that photographs help, but the poster also needs clear explanations. Some visitors may not understand it without words.
Mina: That's a fair point. I don't want the poster to become difficult to read.
Ryo: And I don't want to remove every picture. Could we put one large photograph at the top and three short explanations below it?
Mina: That sounds better than choosing only pictures or only text. Let's use large letters for the headings.
Ryo: Good idea. We can ask another student to check whether the labels are easy to read.
Mina: So we agree on one photograph, three short explanations, and large headings.
Ryo: Yes. We haven't printed the final poster yet, but we can make a draft today.

- Q19:Has the final poster been printed?
- Q20:Complete: ‘The group chose a design that included both pictures ___ text.’
Ken: Our event budget is twenty fictional dollars. I want a set of large posters that costs twelve dollars.
Emi: I would rather rent a microphone. The rental costs eighteen dollars.
Ken: We can't buy the large posters and rent the microphone together. That would cost thirty dollars.
Emi: You're right. But we need both clear signs and sound that visitors can hear.
Yui: I found another poster option. Smaller posters cost six dollars, and the microphone rental still costs fourteen dollars if we choose the shorter rental period.
Ken: Six plus fourteen is twenty. It fits our budget exactly.
Emi: I can accept smaller posters if the lettering is still easy to read.
Yui: Then let's check the lettering on a sample first. After that, we can ask the teacher to approve the new spending plan.
Ken: Agreed. The calculation works, but the purchase has not been approved yet.
- Q21:What is the total budget?
- Q22:How much do Ken’s first posters cost?
- Q23:How much is the first microphone option?
- Q24:Why can’t the group choose both first options?
- Q25:How much do the smaller posters cost?
- Q26:How much does the shorter microphone rental cost?
- Q27:What is the total of the compromise?
- Q28:What condition does Emi give for accepting smaller posters?
- Q29:What will the group check before asking for approval?
- Q30:Is the new spending plan already approved?
Aya: I would like a quiet area where students can read without talking.
Sora: I agree that reading needs quiet, but some students also want to practice short English conversations.
Aya: If everyone speaks in the same small room, students who are reading may find it difficult to concentrate.
Sora: That's true. What if we separate the room into a silent area and a speaking area?
Aya: We need to check whether that is allowed by the school. There may not be enough space for two areas.
Ken: The room has twenty seats, but we haven't measured the space or checked the school's rules about speaking activities.
Sora: Then we should not promise both areas yet. We could ask the teacher to check the plan.
Aya: I agree. We can propose a quiet area and a speaking area, but we must wait for the school's decision.
Ken: Our group has reached a proposal, not a confirmed room policy. I'll write down the two unanswered questions.
- Q31:What kind of area does Aya want?
- Q32:What activity does Sora want to make possible?
- Q33:Why does Aya worry about everyone speaking together?
