Grade 7

1.Common Core

英語では「We observed …」「According to the source …」「This may suggest …」

A|創作短編「The Unfinished Model」読解10問

Ella and Noah were building a small bridge for a school design exhibition. Ella wanted the model to look impressive, so she added decorations before checking whether the bridge could support any weight. Noah preferred testing its strength first. During the first trial, the bridge bent under a heavy book. Ella felt disappointed and suggested hiding the result from the visitors. Noah disagreed. “A model that fails can teach us something,” he said. Together they studied where the bridge had bent, replaced two weak supports, and recorded the changes. At the final exhibition, their bridge looked simpler than the others, but it held the same book without bending. When a visitor asked why they had changed the design, Ella described both the failure and the improvement. She realised that the most useful part of their project was not how the bridge appeared but how their decisions were supported by evidence.

In a fictional community centre, a group of students wanted to create a reading corner. They asked 50 visitors how often they would use it. Twenty visitors said they might use it weekly, fifteen said monthly, ten said rarely, and five were unsure. One student concluded that the project would be successful because many people supported the idea. Another student pointed out that answering a survey was different from actually using the space. The team therefore proposed a three-week trial. They planned to count the number of visitors, ask users whether the books were helpful, and compare the use of the corner on weekdays and weekends. They also considered the cost of replacing damaged books. Their final recommendation was conditional: expand the project only if the trial showed regular use and the available budget could cover maintenance. The group learned that a good proposal explains both an opportunity and its practical limits.

11.How many visitors answered the survey?

問12.How many said they might use the corner weekly?

問13.How many selected the “monthly” option?

Before expanding the project, students should count visitors, ask about their experience, and compare weekday and weekend use. Those results could guide a practical decision.

40.Clear learning goals help students understand what good writing should achieve. For example, a teacher may ask learners to support every claim with specific evidence rather than merely writing longer paragraphs. Useful feedback then shows which part of a draft needs improvement. Students can revise one paragraph, explain the changes, and try the same skill in a new task. Without clear criteria, they may repeat mistakes without noticing them. When goals and feedback are connected, progress becomes visible and learners can make better decisions about what to practise next.
