Story A — The Missing Sign(第1〜8問)
On Monday, Aya and Kota prepared a sign for a small reading corner. Aya wrote the title in large letters, while Kota drew pictures of three kinds of books. They placed the sign near the library door. The next morning, they could not find it. Kota thought someone had moved it, but Aya noticed that a cleaner had placed all the signs on a nearby table. She asked the cleaner about them. He explained that the floor near the door had to be cleaned and that the signs would be returned after lunch. Aya told Kota the reason, and they waited. After lunch, Kota put their sign back, this time on a wall where it would not block the entrance. Their teacher liked the new location because more people could see the sign without standing in the doorway.

Story B — A Story With Two Endings(第9〜16問)
Mina and Ryo read an English story about a traveler who found a lost dog in a park. In the original ending, the traveler called the number on the dog’s collar and waited for its owner. Mina liked the ending because the traveler did not take the dog home without asking anyone. Ryo wanted a different ending. He suggested that the traveler should first ask a park worker for help. Their teacher told them to explain how each ending solved the problem. Mina said that calling the owner directly might be faster. Ryo argued that a park worker could help if the number did not work. They agreed that both endings were possible and wrote one advantage of each. The next day, they told the class about their versions. Several students preferred Mina’s version, but the class did not vote on which ending was the only correct one.

Story C — When the Schedule Changed(第17〜24問)
The English club planned to read stories together on Thursday at four o’clock. On Wednesday, the teacher sent a message saying that the library would be used for another class. The meeting was moved to Friday, but the starting time stayed at four. Students were told to bring a notebook and one short book. They did not need to bring a laptop. Haru read the message quickly and thought the meeting would still be on Thursday. His friend Nao showed him the sentence that said ‘moved to Friday.’ Haru then checked the message again and wrote the new day in his notebook. At the meeting, students read quietly for fifteen minutes and then shared a short summary with a partner. Nao explained the main event in her story, while Haru described why a character had changed his mind.

Story D — A Helpful Review(第25〜32問)
Sara finished a book about a young inventor who made a simple machine to carry heavy bags. Her first review said, ‘This book was good.’ Her brother asked, ‘What made it good?’ Sara looked back at the story. The machine failed during the first test, and the inventor felt disappointed. Instead of giving up, she changed one part and tested the machine again. Sara decided that this was the most important part. She rewrote her review: ‘I enjoyed the story because the inventor learned from a failed test. She tried again after changing the design.’ She also added a sentence about the lesson she learned: small changes can help us improve. On Friday, Sara read the review aloud. She could explain her opinion without looking at the book. Her brother said the new review was easier to understand because it used a specific event as evidence.
