英作文で理由を書く際には、because の後ろには主語＋動詞を備えた節、because of の後ろには名詞句を置くのが基本です。due to も原因を示しますが、自然な結び付きと文の構造を確認して使います。難しい接続表現より、理由と結果の関係が正確に伝わる英文を優先しましょう。
対象：英検3級〜1級のWritingを練習する中学生・高校生。この記事では級別模試の形式・語数を再現せず、全級に使える英文の精度と論理の改善に絞ります。
出題・英文：すべて慶英会オリジナル。学校・町・登場人物・調査・数値は学習用の架空設定であり、英検過去問の転載や実在の調査結果ではありません。
最初に押さえる4つの修正原則
- because + 主語＋動詞で理由の節を作る。
- because of + 名詞（句）を使い、単独の定形節を直結しない。
- due to は原因を示す前置詞表現。文脈に応じて because of に書き換えると構造を確かめやすい。
- 原因が観察されていない場合、理由を新たに捏造せず may / might で推測と区別する。
典型的な誤答と修正
改善前：
Because of the bus was delayed, students arrived late.
改善後：
Because the bus was delayed, students arrived late.
理由：the bus was delayed は主語と動詞がある節なので because。because of を用いるなら Because of the bus delay, … と名詞句にします。

- 問題文の主語・時制・条件・数量を修正後にも残せたか。
- 文法だけ直して、本文にない事実や効果を書き足していないか。
