英文要約で、payback period（投資費用を節約や収益で回収するまでの期間）と、実際に回収が完了したという意味のpaid back / recovered the costは違います。初期費用600、毎月の純節約額100を予測すれば回収期間は6か月の見込みですが、まだ導入していなければ実績ではありません。維持費などを差し引いた月間純節約額かどうかも確認します。

誤要約を防ぐ4原則
- 予測回収期間＝初期費用÷1期間当たりの純節約額、という単純計算は同じ節約が続く前提。
- gross savings（費用削減総額）と net savings（維持費などを差し引いた純削減額）は違う。
- estimated payback period は予測であり、actual break-even に達したという実績ではない。
- 投資回収できたとしても全費目を含む利益・長期の成功を自動的に証明しない。
典型的な誤要約を改善する
誤要約：
The new lamps will break even in five months because the estimate says so, although they were not purchased.
改善後：
If the estimated savings occur as planned, the lamps could recover their initial cost in five months; no actual payback has occurred.
和訳：予測どおり節約できれば5か月で初期費用を回収できる可能性があるが、実際の回収はまだない。 理由：見積計算と実際に回収した事実を区別する。
