英検準2級のtoo … to・not … enough to・so … that｜同義文書換40課題【全解答・全和訳】

英検準2級の英文法でtoo … to／not … enough to／so … that … cannotを意味を変えずに書き換えられますか。3つの構文は、程度が強すぎることが原因で「できない」場面を異なる形で表現できます。英検準2級の短文空所・Reading・Writingにもつながるよう、慶英会が8場面・40課題の独自4択・書換・誤文訂正と全文和訳を作りました。

英検準2級のReadingには短文語句空所補充が15問あり、Writingでは自然な文法・語法が必要です（日本英語検定協会・準2級の試験内容）。以下は慶英会が独自に制作した文法演習です。英検協会の公式問題・公認教材ではなく、これら3構文の出題を保証するものでもありません。

so … thatをほかの表現と比較：so that・in order to・in caseの「目的・備え」とso … thatの「結果」を区別する独自48課題で、同じsoでも役割が違うことを確認できます。

3つの構文の決定的な違い

too＋形容詞／副詞＋for 人＋to 動詞：The box is too heavy for Tom to lift.（重すぎて持てない）。not＋反対語＋enough＋for 人＋to 動詞：The box is not light enough for Tom to lift.（十分軽くないので持てない）。so＋形容詞／副詞＋that＋主語＋cannot：The box is so heavy that Tom cannot lift it.（とても重いので持てない）。

• enoughの位置：large enough / slowly enoughなど、形容詞・副詞の後ろに置く。名詞を修飾するenough booksとは語順が違う。
• 反対語：too narrow→not wide enough、too noisy→not quiet enough。否定を落とすと意味が逆になる。
• 結果節：so … thatには主語と動詞を備えた節が続く。「できない」という今回の意味ではcannotなどを用いるが、so … thatが常に否定になるわけではない。

各場面の元の英文を読み、①too … toへ書き換える、②not … enough toへ書き換える、③so … that … cannotへ書き換える、④同じ意味の英文を4択から選ぶ、⑤誤文を訂正する、の順に解きます。

場面1｜箱が重すぎる

元の英文：Tom cannot lift the box because it is very heavy.
和訳：箱が重すぎてトムには持ち上げられない。

よく間違える形・再テスト

• not enough largeと書いたら、not large enoughへ修正する。
• too small thatと書いたら、too small to または so small that にする。
• for weと書いたらfor usへ修正する。
• speak too quickと書いたらspeak too quicklyへ修正する。
• notの有無で「できる」「できない」が逆転していないか確認する。

too … toは否定文ではないのですか？

notがなくても、程度が過度でその行動ができない状況を表す場合があります。文脈で意味を確認してください。

enoughを形容詞の前に置いてもよいですか？

形容詞・副詞を修飾する場合は後ろです。例：large enough、quickly enough。名詞を修飾するときはenough timeです。

so … thatの後に必ずcannotが必要ですか？

いいえ。so … thatは肯定の結果も表せます。今回の練習は「できない」という元の状況を保つためcannotを使っています。
