英検準2級in order to・so that・in caseの違い｜目的・備え・結果の独自48課題【全解答】

英検準2級のin order to・so that・in caseは、「目的」と「備え」を区別すると使い分けられます。in order to＋原形は「〜するために」、so that＋主語＋動詞は「〜できるように」、in case＋節は「万一〜した場合に備えて」です。so … that …は「とても〜なので…」という結果を表す場合があり、同じsoでも異なります。慶英会では独自12場面・48課題（4択・誤文訂正・和文英訳・同義文書換）を制作しました。

英検協会の準2級試験内容ではReadingに短文語句空所補充、WritingにEメールと意見英作文が含まれます。今回の英文と全48課題は慶英会独自の非公式練習教材であり、英検協会の過去問を転載したものではありません。

目的の英語を理解したら義務・禁止へ：mustn’t・don’t have to・needn’tの48課題【禁止と不要の違い】で、施設案内の安全規則や参加条件を読み違えない練習ができます。

4種類の目的・備え・結果を区別

• in order to＋原形：We left early in order to catch the train.（列車に乗るために早く出た）。to以下が目的の行動。
• so that＋主語＋can/could/will/wouldなど：We printed larger signs so that visitors could read them.（来訪者が読めるように）。人や対象が目的の節の主語になる。
• in case＋主語＋動詞：We took umbrellas in case it rained.（雨に備えて）。雨を降らせることが目的ではない。
• so＋形容詞／副詞＋that＋節：The room was so noisy that we could not hear the teacher.（うるさすぎて聞こえなかった）。原因の程度から生じた結果を表す。
• 否定の目的：in order not to / so as not to＋原形を用い、迷惑をかけないように行動する。

各場面で4択を解き、誤文訂正、和文英訳、同義文書換を行います。とくにin caseを目的のso thatと勘違いしないよう、行動が目指す結果と、万一の備えを区別します。

誤答しやすい語順と意味

• in order catchingは誤り。in order to catchのようにto＋動詞原形。
• so that visitors read … と書く場合、意図する可能・目的の関係を明確にしたいならso that visitors could read …。
• in case of it rainsは誤り。in case it rains（節）またはin case of rain（名詞句）など。
• so … thatのsoと目的のso thatを混同しない。so crowded that … のように形容詞が間にあると程度と結果。
• in order not to / so as not toの否定の位置を確認する。

7日間の復習手順

1日目は12問の4択、2日目は誤文訂正12題、3日目は和文英訳12題、4日目は同義文書換12題に取り組みます。5日目に自分の学校生活を題材に目的文を3つ、備えを表す文を2つ作り、6日目にso … thatの結果文を3つ書きます。7日目はまだ見ていない英検準2級のReading・Writingで使い分けられるか確かめてください。

よくある質問

in order toとso thatはいつでも同じですか？

目的を表す点は共通しますが、後続の文法構造が異なります。前者はto＋原形、後者は主語＋動詞を持つ節です。

in caseとifは同じですか？

意味が近いことはありますが、in caseは前もって備える行動を表すときによく用います。単なる条件のifと常に置換できるわけではありません。

so thatとso … thatの違いは？

so that＋節は目的を示す場合があります。so＋形容詞／副詞＋that節は強い程度と結果を示します。例文で区別しましょう。

in order not toとnot in order toの違いは？

in order not to doは「〜しないために」という否定の目的。not in order to doは、前後の文脈によって「〜するためではなく」という目的そのものの否定になることがあります。
