結論｜otherwiseはそうしなければ、unlessは〜しない限り、or elseは警告
Bring your student card. Otherwise, you may not enter.は「学生証を持ってきてください。そうしなければ入れないかもしれません」。You cannot enter unless you have a card.は「カードがない限り入れません」。Bring your student card, or else you may not enter.は命令に続く警告です。どれも条件と結果に関係しますが、文のつながりと語順が異なります。

3つの表現と定型句を比較
- Otherwise,＋文：Register today. Otherwise, the place may be filled.（そうしないと）
- unless＋主語＋動詞：We cannot join unless we register.（登録しない限り）
- 命令＋or else＋文：Wear a helmet, or else you may get hurt.（さもないと）
- unless otherwise stated：Unless otherwise stated, the price includes the materials.（別の記載がない限り）
- otherwiseの別義：in other respects（そのほかの点では）という使い方もある。ここでは条件・注意書きを中心に扱う。
otherwiseとunlessの違い｜独立した文か、従属する節か
Otherwiseは前に述べた指示・条件を受けて「そうしない場合の結果」を述べます。Unlessは主語と動詞が続く従属節を導き、「その条件が満たされなければ」という意味です。Unless it rains, we will meet outdoors.は雨が降らない限り屋外で会うという予定です。unless節では未来を表しても通常現在形を使います。
or elseとotherwiseは意味が重なる
Hurry up, or else you will miss the bus.とHurry up. Otherwise, you will miss the bus.は両方自然です。そのため同じ4択に両方を置いて一方を必ず誤りとはしません。命令の後の警告ならor else、独立した次の文の結び付きならOtherwise,という形で練習します。
unless otherwise statedの意味｜例外の注意書きを先に探す
Unless otherwise stated, all visitors should use the north entrance.という案内があった場合、基本規則は北入口の利用です。ただし別の注意書きがある場合にはその指示が優先されます。Unless otherwise announced / specified / instructedも同様に例外の可能性を認める定型表現です。これは英検準2級の案内文で「本文の原則」と「別の明示された条件」を照合する練習になります。
