独自長文1|同じ測定を繰り返す意味|Reproducibility(約216語)

英文・第1段落

A fictional school science group investigated temperature differences between two classrooms. The students recorded readings at several times during the day and initially reported that one room was consistently warmer. Another class tried to repeat the measurements but obtained a smaller difference. Some students assumed that the second group must have made a mistake. Their teacher encouraged them to examine the methods before drawing that conclusion, because instruments, measurement times, and the location of each sensor could influence the results.

英文・第2段落

The groups compared their notes and discovered that one class had placed its sensor near a sunny window while the other had measured temperature in the center of the room. They decided to repeat the experiment using the same locations and a shared timetable. The teacher explained that obtaining similar results under comparable conditions could strengthen confidence in a finding, while differences might identify a limitation in the original method. However, repeating an experiment did not automatically establish the correct explanation for every observed change.

英文・第3段落

After the revised measurements, the groups found more consistent readings. They published the procedure and recorded occasions when data could not be collected, rather than presenting a flawless set of results. The project showed that reproducibility depended on clear methods and careful comparisons, not simply repeating a claim with greater confidence.

内容一致・独自4択5問

Q1. Why did the teacher discourage blaming the second group immediately?

  1. Different methods might explain the differing readings.
  2. The second group had never conducted an experiment.
  3. Every sensor was broken.
  4. The result was already proved false.

Q2. Which difference did the groups find?

  1. One school had closed.
  2. One class used no instruments.
  3. Sensors had been placed in different parts of the rooms.
  4. Students refused to share notes.

Q3. What did the groups do next?

  1. They stopped collecting data.
  2. They repeated measurements with aligned locations and times.
  3. They published only the first results.
  4. They replaced all teachers.

Q4. What did the teacher caution about repetition?

  1. No observation can ever be useful.
  2. Repeated experiments always fail.
  3. A sensor can never show temperature.
  4. Similar results do not by themselves explain every cause.

Q5. What principle guided publication of the results?

  1. Disclose procedures and missing observations.
  2. Hide measurements that do not fit.
  3. Claim perfect accuracy.
  4. Report only the largest difference.

60〜70語の要約・慶英会模範(64語)

A fictional school research group observed different classroom temperatures, but a second group obtained inconsistent results. Their teacher asked students to compare methods rather than assume one group was wrong. They found different sensor locations and repeated measurements under shared conditions. The results became more consistent, although the cause of every variation remained uncertain. Students published their methods and missing observations to support reproducibility.

独自長文2|査読を受けた論文は絶対に正しいか|Peer Review(約206語)

英文・第1段落

A fictional research institute submitted a study about a community transport program to an academic journal. Before accepting the paper, the journal invited independent specialists to review the methods and conclusions. The reviewers asked whether the authors had compared enough routes and whether unusual weather could have influenced passenger numbers. The authors responded by providing additional details and revising several statements that had sounded more certain than the evidence allowed.

英文・第2段落

After the revised paper was published, a local newspaper described the findings as completely proven because they had passed peer review. One researcher disagreed with this description. She explained that critical review could help identify weaknesses and improve a study, but publication was not a guarantee that every interpretation was correct. New evidence or further analysis might still challenge an earlier conclusion. The institute therefore made clear which observations had been recorded and which benefits remained hypotheses.

英文・第3段落

The researchers also welcomed questions from local residents who used the transport system. They explained the study in accessible language and corrected an error in a table without hiding the original publication history. The institute concluded that reliable research depended on scrutiny, transparent corrections, and continued testing, not on treating the journal’s decision as the end of all discussion.

  1. Whether routes and weather might affect conclusions.
  2. Why the institute had stopped research.
  3. Whether every resident had approved the program.
  4. Why the paper contained no methods.

Q7. What did the authors change before publication?

  1. They removed every observation.
  2. They declared all programs successful.
  3. They provided details and reduced overconfident wording.
  4. They replaced researchers with journalists.

Q8. Why was the newspaper’s claim criticized?

  1. The paper was never reviewed.
  2. Peer review does not guarantee that every conclusion is correct.
  3. The research concerned no transport.
  4. Journals are forbidden to publish corrections.

Q9. How did the institute handle a mistake in a table?

  1. It ignored the error.
  2. It withdrew all academic publications.
  3. It prohibited public questions.
  4. It corrected the error and retained a transparent history.

Q10. What was the passage’s overall point?

  1. Reliable research involves review, corrections, and further tests.
  2. One journal decision ends all debate.

60〜70語の要約・慶英会模範(62語)

A fictional research institute submitted a transport study for peer review, and specialists questioned its methods and conclusions. The authors clarified their evidence and revised overconfident statements. After publication, a newspaper incorrectly treated review as proof of complete accuracy. Researchers explained that future evidence could change interpretations and publicly corrected a table error. The case emphasized scrutiny, transparent revisions, and continued testing.

独自長文3|研究データの公開と参加者の個人情報|Data Sharing(約215語)

英文・第1段落

A fictional university studied how students used public learning spaces. The researchers collected information about when rooms were busy and asked volunteers to describe their experiences. Some outside specialists requested the original data so they could check the analysis. The research team wanted to make its methods understandable, but it recognized that detailed records could reveal sensitive information about individuals, especially if time and location data could be combined with other sources.

英文・第2段落

The team therefore considered sharing a carefully prepared dataset that removed direct identifiers and grouped some observations into broader categories. It explained that removing names alone would not always eliminate privacy concerns. Researchers also prepared a description of how the sample had been recruited and when observations had been missed. They warned that a dataset from volunteers might not represent students who never used the spaces or could not attend the survey sessions.

英文・第3段落

After an internal review, the university shared summary figures and methodological notes while restricting access to more detailed records under appropriate procedures. The researchers invited others to test their calculations and report discrepancies. They argued that openness did not require publishing every private detail, just as protecting privacy did not justify concealing important limitations. The project’s goal was evidence that could be evaluated responsibly without exposing participants to unnecessary risk.

内容一致・独自4択5問

Q11. Why was sharing original records potentially risky?

  1. Combined time and location details might reveal individuals.
  2. The university had collected no data.
  3. Every student wanted public disclosure.
  4. The data could never be examined.

Q12. What did the researchers consider sharing?

  1. Every private record without review.
  2. Only the university’s logo.
  3. A prepared dataset with identifiers removed or observations grouped.
  4. No information about methods.

Q13. Why was removing names alone not always sufficient?

  1. Names were the only information collected.
  2. Other details might still allow identification.
  3. The sample was too large.
  4. The study involved no volunteers.

Q14. What limitation of the sample was acknowledged?

  1. Every student took part.
  2. All observations were at night.
  3. The data had been fabricated.
  4. Volunteer participants might not represent nonusers.

Q15. What balance did the project seek?

  1. Allow verification while limiting unnecessary disclosure of personal data.
  2. Publish everything regardless of risk.
  3. Hide all methodological weaknesses.
  4. Prevent independent checks.

60〜70語の要約・慶英会模範(64語)

A fictional university studied learning-space use and received requests to share original data. Researchers wanted independent checks but worried that detailed time and location records could identify participants. They prepared summaries, removed some identifiers, and explained the limits of volunteer sampling. More sensitive records remained restricted. The university argued that responsible transparency meant enabling evaluation without exposing unnecessary personal details or hiding methodological weaknesses.
