Original passage:A public library tested staying open two hours later on weekdays for eight weeks. It wanted to provide quiet study spaces for students who attended clubs after school or could not concentrate at home. Evening attendance increased, and some visitors reported that the schedule made revision easier. However, the longer hours required additional staff shifts and electricity, raising operating costs. The library did not collect examination results, so officials could not establish whether students achieved higher grades. The director said the city would compare visitor numbers with expenses and survey users before deciding whether the trial should become permanent. The experience showed that demand was real, but its long-term cost and educational impact remained uncertain.

Original passage:A town introduced a trial evening shuttle that residents could reserve through an app or by telephone. Officials hoped it would reduce nearly empty journeys while helping workers and older residents travel. Early bookings were concentrated around a train station and a clinic. However, some passengers did not have smartphones and needed help booking by phone. Providing telephone assistance required staff time, which increased costs. The town decided not to judge success only by the number of app bookings. Instead, officials planned to compare completed journeys, operating expenses, and the experiences of different passengers. The trial would continue while the town examined whether residents who could not book easily were being left without suitable transport.

Original passage:A secondary school provided digital textbooks to several classes so teachers could update materials more quickly. Students appreciated being able to search for unfamiliar terms, and teachers could correct examples without printing every chapter again. Yet some families reported unreliable internet access at home, while others preferred printed pages for long reading tasks. The school therefore kept essential paper materials alongside the digital version rather than replacing all books. Teachers also explained that the new system had not yet been evaluated against examination grades. They planned to review student feedback, technical problems, and costs before introducing the program to other year groups. The school considered the two formats complementary rather than treating digital access as a complete substitute.

Original passage:A neighborhood group organized a monthly collection event for paper and plastic packaging. In the second month, more residents participated and the amount of collected paper increased. The organizers welcomed these results, but they did not measure how much waste households discarded through other services. They also knew that heavy rain had prevented some volunteers from joining the first event, making simple month-to-month comparisons difficult. Rather than announce that the neighborhood had reduced all waste, the group decided to record several categories over a longer period. They would also ask residents whether they had changed the way they separated materials at home. The organizers hoped the evidence would help them improve the activity before recommending expansion.

A public library tested longer evening hours to offer quiet study spaces to students. Attendance increased and some visitors found revision easier. However, additional staffing and electricity raised costs, while examination results were not collected. Officials plan to compare attendance with expenses and survey users before deciding whether to keep the extended schedule permanently. The trial therefore demonstrated demand without establishing a long-term educational benefit.(65語)

A neighborhood collection event attracted more participants and gathered more paper in its second month. However, organizers had not measured waste disposed of elsewhere, and earlier rain complicated the comparison. They plan to collect longer-term data on several materials and ask residents about sorting habits before claiming an overall reduction or expanding the project. Thus, increased collection alone does not establish a fall in total waste.(66語)
