The town library closed temporarily after an inspection found serious damage to its roof. Some residents depended on it for study space and free internet access. Had officials carried out repairs several years earlier, the building might not have required such a long closure. The mayor said that, were the library to remain unavailable for another year, more families would need alternatives. Should residents require information about temporary study rooms, the town would provide assistance by telephone and at the community center. The local council also considered the role of volunteer groups. Were it not for their help, the temporary service could not operate as often. Officials avoided claiming that one repair would solve every difficulty. They planned to examine the building’s condition, maintenance costs, and which residents were unable to use digital alternatives.

Q33. What could earlier repairs have changed?

  1. The location of every school
  2. The need for such a long closure
  3. The number of residents in the town
  4. The existence of internet services worldwide

Q34. What does ‘were the library to remain unavailable’ express?

  1. A policy already completed
  2. An event in the distant past
  3. An imaginary past examination
  4. A hypothetical future continuation

Q35. Where could residents seek temporary information?

  1. By telephone or at the community center
  2. Only through a paid subscription
  3. Only outside the country
  4. Only from an unfamiliar advertisement

Q36. Why were volunteers important?

  1. They had bought every building
  2. They had banned public study spaces
  3. Without them, the temporary service could operate less often
  4. They guaranteed that costs would disappear

A science club prepared a report about changes in a local pond. Last year, several observations had been recorded on a computer that later stopped working. Had the club saved backup copies, the old records would still be available now. The teacher said that, were the pupils to repeat the survey, they should record each measurement in more than one place. Should the equipment fail during fieldwork, the club would use printed forms until the system was restored. A former member had assisted the group when it first began collecting data. Had it not been for her guidance, the original project might never have started. The teacher emphasized that the absence of old records did not prove the pond had become healthier or less healthy. Better comparisons would require consistent methods and clearly documented evidence.

Q37. What was the effect of having no backups?

  1. The club automatically received higher scores
  2. All measurements became more accurate
  3. Old records were unavailable after a computer failed
  4. The pond had to be drained

Q38. What would the teacher recommend if the survey were repeated?

  1. Recording measurements in more than one place
  2. Stopping all data collection
  3. Relying on one computer only
  4. Discarding every printed form

Q39. What would happen if equipment failed during the work?

  1. All future surveys would become illegal
  2. The club would declare the pond safe
  3. Every student would leave school
  4. Printed forms would serve as a temporary backup

Q40. What is the significance of the former member’s help?

  1. It guaranteed the results were accurate
  2. Without her guidance, the project might not have begun
  3. It replaced the need for maintenance
  4. It proved the pond was healthier

C:Were it not forの現在の支援の条件。
