運動会の時刻は3種類に分ける
Meet near the gym at eight forty-five.は8時45分集合、The opening starts at nine.は9時開会、The running race starts at nine twenty.は9時20分競走開始です。meet / start / leaveなどの動詞を手掛かりに、数値がどの出来事の時刻なのかを確認します。
チームの色と得点・順位は別の情報
Aya is on the Red Team.はアヤが赤組に所属することです。The Red Team won the relay.は赤組がリレーで勝ったことを意味します。ただしThe Blue Team won Sports Day overall.と書かれていれば総合優勝は青組です。競技ごとの順位と総合得点を混同しないようにします。
雨の場合に実施されない競技を区別
If it rains, Sports Day will be in the gym instead of the field.は雨なら会場が運動場から体育館へ変更されることを表します。さらにThe relay will not take place indoors.とあれば、リレーは屋内で実施されません。晴天時の予定と雨天時の予定を別々に確認しましょう。

winとwonの違いは？
winは動詞原形、wonは過去形・過去分詞です。競技が終わった後の結果を述べるときにはwonを使います。過去形は学校英語への発展項目として扱います。
競走で勝ったチームと運動会全体の優勝は同じ？
