英検4級の公式出題形式と電話・アナウンスの位置づけ

英検協会の4級試験内容では、主な場面として「電話」「アナウンス」が明示されています。リーディングは35分（短文15問、会話文空所補充5問、語句整序5問、長文内容一致10問）。リスニングは約30分で、第1部が3肢選択10問、第2部・第3部が4肢選択各10問、いずれも2回放送です。本記事のすべての問題は慶英会独自の4択・読み上げ用教材であり、英検公式音声、補助イラスト、選択肢の読み上げ方を再現しているわけではありません。本番形式は英検協会の4級公式過去問・音源を併用してください。

英検4級のレベルで重要なのは、すべての慣用句を暗記することではなく、どの情報が必要かを理解することです。たとえば『He is out. He’ll be back at five.』なら、本人はいま不在で、戻る予定は5時です。『Please call again at six.』は、相手が戻る時刻と再電話の時刻が異なることを表します。

音声を聞き取るための家庭での3段階練習

• 1回目：名前・場所・何の用件かを聞く。数字の聞き漏らしは気にしすぎない
• 2回目：時刻・曜日・変更を示すbut、instead、not、becauseの前後を聞いて根拠を確認する
• 答え合わせ：文字の台本を見て聞き取れなかった語に印を付け、短い区切りで音読後、台本を閉じてもう一度聞く

英検4級の電話・アナウンスでよくある質問

Q. 英検4級では電話専用の独立大問が出ますか？

公式の出題形式に『電話専用大問』はありません。電話やアナウンスは主な場面として示される題材です。会話文、長文、リスニングの中で必要な情報を読み取る力を身に付けましょう。

Q. speak toとtalk toは違いますか？

どちらも相手と話す意味で使えます。電話でMay I speak to …? は特に定番の表現です。相手本人が電話に出た場合はThis is … speaking. と答えられます。

Q. byとuntilは同じ意味ですか？

どちらも日本語では『まで』ですが、by Fridayは金曜日までに完了する期限、stay until Fridayは金曜日まで続けることです。伝言に書かれた期限は、行動が終わっているべき時点なのか、継続する期間なのかを判断します。
