英検4級の道案内や会話では、バス・電車に乗るget on、降りるget off、車・タクシーに乗り込むget in／get into、降りるget out of、電車を乗り換えるchange trainsを区別します。同じ日本語の『乗る』でも、バスと車では代表的な英語表現が異なります。

公共交通のバス・電車ならget on／get offを、乗用車・タクシーならget in／get out ofをまず覚えます。get ontoなどの別の言い方もありますが、学校英語では代表的な組み合わせから練習すると混乱しにくくなります。

『Green Line → Central Station → Blue Line → North Station』では、中央駅が乗換駅で、ノース駅が目的の降車駅です。文章に駅名が多いときにはget on／got off／changed toの動詞を線で結び、乗換駅と最後に降りる駅を別々に記録してください。

またget off the busはバスから降りる動作です。Get off at the library.と書かれていても『図書館でバスを降りる』のであって、必ず図書館に入館するという意味ではありません。乗降と訪問も分けて読みましょう。
