英検3級Eメールで「Where did you find it?」と「Who did you give it to?」が出たら、見つけた場所と渡した相手をそれぞれ答えます。慶英会のオリジナル8通40課題では、落とし物の場面を使い、場所を表す前置詞・過去形・代名詞・15〜25語の返信・不十分な答案の修正を練習します。
結論｜Whereは場所、Whoは渡した相手を尋ねる
WhereとWhoに続く発展教材：Where did you buy it・When will you give itの40課題は、見つけた場所と届けた人ではなく、購入場所と渡す予定の時間を尋ねます。
Where did you find it? → I found it under a bench. / Who did you give it to? → I gave it to a station worker. が基本です。両方の質問に「I found an umbrella.」だけで答えることはできません。何を見つけたかは補足情報であり、必要なのは場所と相手です。
英検協会の英検3級の試験内容ではWritingにEメール返信が1題あり、受信メール中の2つの質問に答えます。目安の返信本文は15〜25語です。以下の出来事・メール・解答はすべて慶英会が作成した架空の教材で、公式過去問ではありません。
Where・Whoの意味と前置詞を比較

find–found–found、give–gave–givenの形を確認します。英作文で眼鏡など複数形として扱う物を指す場合は「I gave them to …」とし、単数のumbrellaならitを使います。

よくある質問
Who did you give it to?の最後のtoは必要ですか？
この語順では必要です。「I gave it to a teacher.」と対応しています。会話では「To whom did you give it?」も文法上可能ですが、ここでは使いやすい基本構文を練習します。
眼鏡をitで指してもよいですか？
a pair of glasses全体をひとまとまりとして捉える表現もありますが、glassesそのものを受ける一般的な代名詞はthemです。特に「I gave them to the teacher.」を練習しましょう。
落とし物を自分で返せなかった場合の答えは？
状況に合わせて「I gave it to the school office.」など自分が実際に行ったことを書きます。正式な対応をしたと誤って書かず、質問が求める事実を正確に説明します。
