結論｜応募・審査・許可・受賞は異なる

“apply”は申請、“be accepted”は発表枠の受理、“safety approval”は実演の安全許可を意味します。応募が認められても危険な実験の実演まで承認されたとは限りません。読解では動詞が示す段階を確認しましょう。

独自長文｜研究発表会の応募と選考

A secondary school will hold a science fair in December. Students who wish to present a project must submit a one-page summary by November 12. The summary should explain the research question, the method used, and what was actually measured. Students may work alone or in pairs, but groups of three are not accepted. 独自長文｜実験の安全審査と準備

Before the school science fair, every experiment involving heat, electricity, or chemicals must pass a safety review. The review is intended to check risks, not to decide whether the scientific result is impressive. 独自長文｜研究成果の評価基準

The judges at the school fair will evaluate projects according to a published guide.
