A history class found an old photograph of a bridge marked with the year 1925. A newspaper from that year, however, said construction was only being planned. The students searched later records and found that the bridge had opened in 1927. They corrected the exhibition to explain the difference between the original plan and the confirmed opening date. Their teacher praised the careful checking.
What did the class discover?
- The bridge was never built.
- The photograph was from another country.
- The bridge opened later than the original label suggested.
- The newspaper had no information.

A school club planted flowers beside a coastal path. Despite regular watering, several plants became weak during summer. A local gardener explained that the soil contained more salt than some of those plants could tolerate. Instead of watering them more often, the club chose species suited to coastal soil and began measuring moisture. The students learned that environmental conditions must guide plant selection.
What did the club do?
- Selected plants suited to salty soil.
- Stopped maintaining the garden.
- Added more salt to the water.
- Moved all plants indoors.
A:Selected plants suited to salty soil.

A museum created audio descriptions for visitors who found the printed signs difficult to read. The first descriptions were so long that many people stopped listening halfway through. Staff interviewed visitors and recorded shorter introductions with the most important facts first. Extra details were provided separately. In a second trial, more listeners completed the introductions, and the staff continued collecting feedback.
What improved the recordings?
- Removing all facts.
- Making the recordings longer.
- Adding more technical terms.
- Putting key facts first and optional details separately.
D:Putting key facts first and optional details separately.

A river research club planned to collect water samples every Friday. Several visits were canceled because heavy rain made the riverbank unsafe. One student suggested filling missing rows with estimated values. The adviser warned that invented numbers would make the report misleading. Instead, the club marked those dates as missing and arranged additional visits when conditions were safe. Their final report distinguished observations from estimates.
What did the club do with missing measurements?
- It copied values from another river.
- It marked the data as missing rather than inventing numbers.
- It claimed no rain had fallen.
- It stopped all research.
B:It marked the data as missing rather than inventing numbers.
A school group suggested sending every worksheet as a digital file to reduce printing. Teachers explained that some students lacked reliable devices or internet access at home. The group revised its proposal. General notices would use double-sided paper, while essential study materials would remain available in print. After a term, paper use had fallen, and the group continued checking whether everyone could access the learning materials.
Why was the proposal changed?
- Some students could not reliably access digital materials.
- Printing was prohibited by law.
- All students refused to study.
- Electronic files used more paper.
A:Some students could not reliably access digital materials.
Part 2B|
Some towns are testing small electric buses on narrow streets where large vehicles are difficult to operate. The buses may help older residents reach clinics and shops. However, charging, drivers, repairs, and electricity cost money. Researchers count passengers at different times and compare these figures with operating expenses. A busy launch day does not necessarily prove that the service will remain useful throughout the year.
What should be evaluated?
- Only the bus color.
- The price of nearby shops.
- Long-term passenger demand and operating costs.
- The number of launch photographs.
C:Long-term passenger demand and operating costs.
Some schools collect rainwater from rooftops to water gardens. The system can reduce the use of treated tap water, but rooftop rainwater may contain dirt and is not automatically safe for drinking. Staff label storage tanks clearly and inspect them regularly. They also measure tap-water use before and after installation to understand actual savings instead of assuming that every tank is effective.
Why is the tank labeled?
- To distinguish water for plants from drinking water.
- To eliminate safety checks.
- To make rainwater taste better.
- To guarantee all water is drinkable.
A:To distinguish water for plants from drinking water.
A public library lends beginner musical instruments, including small keyboards and practice drums, for two weeks at a time. Borrowers receive instructions, and staff check every instrument when it is returned. Some residents have asked for professional instruments, but the library is delaying that expansion because repairs could be expensive. It will review demand and maintenance costs before making a decision.
Why is expansion delayed?
- No one asked for new instruments.
- Every instrument is broken.
- Professional instruments are illegal.
- Professional equipment may require costly repairs.
D:Professional equipment may require costly repairs.
Some restaurants use reusable containers instead of disposable packaging. Customers return the containers, and workers clean them for the next use. This may reduce waste, but washing and transport require water, energy, and labor. Researchers therefore compare how often each container is reused with the resources needed to maintain the service. A reusable container is not automatically better in every situation.
What determines the benefit of reusable containers?
- Only the container color.
- Reuse frequency and cleaning or transport resources.
- Whether every customer buys lunch.
- The number of advertisements.
B:Reuse frequency and cleaning or transport resources.
Roads and buildings in cities can release heat stored during the day after sunset. One street may therefore be warmer than a nearby park at night. Students who investigate the difference take readings at fixed points with similar instruments and note weather conditions. They cannot assume one building caused the temperature difference without further evidence. Repeated observations help them compare results more reliably.
Why are fixed methods important?
- They help make measurements more comparable.
- They guarantee the same temperature everywhere.
- They remove the need to check weather.
- They prove one building is responsible.
A:They help make measurements more comparable.
Volunteers may help translate short public notices for people who speak different languages. Their knowledge of the community can make wording easier to understand. However, errors in health or safety instructions may have serious consequences. Qualified reviewers check important details, and offices display revision dates because a translation can become outdated when the original notice changes.
Why are revision dates displayed?
- To replace qualified reviewers.
- To make documents longer.
- To show whether information may be outdated.
- To prevent every future change.
C:To show whether information may be outdated.
Museums and libraries create digital copies of fragile historical books. This makes content easier for distant researchers to access and reduces handling of originals. However, digital images may not show the texture of paper or the original binding. Staff therefore preserve physical copies and record information about their condition. Digital access is helpful but not always a complete substitute for examining the original.
What is a limitation of digital copies?
- They cannot be read at a distance.
- They always damage originals.
- They are prohibited in libraries.
- They may not show physical qualities of the book.
D:They may not show physical qualities of the book.
Some classes measure air quality in rooms and outside school buildings. Their results can change according to open windows, weather, the number of people present, and the sensor’s location. Teachers remind students that a single measurement may not represent usual conditions. By collecting repeated readings and keeping clear notes, students can compare different situations before recommending changes to ventilation.
Why are repeated readings useful?
- A single reading may not reflect normal conditions.
- Sensors work only outdoors.
- Air quality cannot change during the day.
- All windows must always remain closed.
A:A single reading may not reflect normal conditions.
Coastal plants help prevent soil from moving and provide shelter for small animals. Environmental groups sometimes restore vegetation where it has disappeared. However, plants may not survive in soil with excessive salt or where visitors keep walking across planting areas. Organizers choose suitable species and monitor survival over time. Planting a large number of seedlings alone does not prove that restoration has succeeded.
How is restoration success checked?
- By counting volunteer photographs.
- By the length of speeches.
- By selling the plants.
- By checking whether plants survive over time.
D:By checking whether plants survive over time.
Some schools use portable experiment kits for students in remote areas. Sharing kits can be less expensive than building a laboratory in every small school. However, the equipment must be safe to transport and easy to repair. Teachers inspect each kit after use and replace damaged parts. Distributing many kits does not guarantee success if students are unable to carry out experiments safely.
What is essential for successful use?
- The largest possible number of parts.
- A new laboratory in every school.
- Safe and usable equipment after transport.
- The highest advertising budget.
C:Safe and usable equipment after transport.
