Subject: Arrangements for the Local History Exhibition
Dear Student Presenters,
Thank you for registering for Saturday’s local history exhibition at the Town Cultural Center. The exhibition opens to visitors at 10:00 a.m. All student groups should arrive at the west entrance between 8:50 and 9:15 a.m. Staff will check the presentation tables and explain the rules about using historical materials.
The large hall is being prepared for a music event, so student displays will be set up in the ground-floor gallery instead. The exhibition’s starting and closing times have not changed. The center will provide tables and display stands. Please bring your printed posters and any laptop needed for digital presentations.
Some students have asked whether they may use old photographs donated by local residents. Photos may be shown if the donors have given permission and the details in the captions have been checked. If you are unsure about the date or place shown in a photograph, mark that information as uncertain instead of guessing.
Groups requiring an electrical outlet should contact our office by Thursday at noon. The exhibition will close at 3:00 p.m., and a short discussion session will begin at 3:20 p.m. The organizers will focus on the clarity of explanations and the accuracy of historical information, rather than the cost of a group’s equipment.
Best regards,
History Exhibition Team

Some towns test small changes to public transportation before spending money on permanent services. One town, Lindale, introduced a weekend shuttle between its railway station, a public hospital, and several residential areas. The service was intended to help people who could not easily drive or reach the hospital using existing buses.
During the first four weeks, the number of passengers was lower than officials had expected. Some people said the shuttle was unnecessary. However, when the town interviewed residents, it learned that several had not known the service existed. Others thought the final departure was earlier than the actual timetable showed. The town therefore added signs at the station, published simpler schedules, and asked the hospital to provide information to visitors.
Passenger numbers increased during the next month. Yet two things happened at once: the information campaign began, and the hospital opened a new weekend clinic. Officials could not be certain how much of the increase was caused by clearer information and how much by the additional clinic. They also realized that their first survey had mostly included people who had already used the shuttle. Residents who stayed at home because the service was inconvenient had not been asked about their needs.
Before deciding whether to make the shuttle permanent, the town plans to compare passenger counts, operating costs, and accessibility for people with disabilities. It will also survey nonusers and consider whether other transportation options might meet their needs more efficiently. Officials explain that a service may be important even when ticket income is limited, but they must decide how to use the town’s transport budget fairly.
問27 What was the main purpose of the shuttle trial?
- To replace every railway service
- To make all transport free forever
- To help residents reach important places without relying on driving
- To reduce the number of hospital staff
C:To help residents reach important places without relying on driving。help people who could not easily drive or reach the hospital。
問28 Why might the shuttle have had few passengers at first?
- The hospital had closed completely
- Some residents had not heard about the service or misunderstood the timetable
- All residents owned private cars
- The train station was in another country
B:Some residents had not heard about the service or misunderstood the timetable。had not known the service existed / thought departure earlier。
問29 Why did the town avoid claiming that the information campaign alone increased passenger numbers?
- No passengers were ever counted
- The shuttle had stopped running
- The hospital also opened a weekend clinic
- The town had removed the new signs
C:The hospital also opened a weekend clinic。hospital opened a new weekend clinic at the same time。
30 Which group was underrepresented in the initial survey?
- People who had already used the shuttle
- Visitors to the weekend clinic
- Residents who read the timetable
- People who did not use the shuttle
D:People who did not use the shuttle。mostly included … already used … / nonusers were not asked。
問31 What will the town consider before making the service permanent?
- Only whether the buses are painted blue
- Only the opinions of train drivers
- Only how much the new signs cost
- Demand, costs, accessibility, and alternatives
D:Demand, costs, accessibility, and alternatives。passenger counts, operating costs, accessibility, nonusers, alternatives

Some towns have started offering small shared workspaces where local residents can repair or create simple household items. Visitors may use basic tools and ask volunteers for advice. Supporters say these spaces can help people learn practical skills without purchasing expensive equipment.
However, operating shared workspaces can be difficult. Tools may be damaged or go missing, and some activities require trained instructors. The spaces also need enough room for people to work safely. Without clear rules, visitors might attempt repairs that are beyond their experience.
To manage these problems, organizers can require reservations, explain safety procedures, and inspect equipment after each session. They may limit activities to low-risk tasks and direct visitors to qualified specialists for complicated repairs. These measures can make workspaces easier to run, but organizers still need funding and should examine whether residents continue using the services.
Some towns provide shared workspaces where residents can learn practical skills without buying costly tools. However, damaged equipment, limited space, and safety risks make them difficult to manage. Reservations, clear rules, inspections, and restrictions on dangerous tasks can help, although organizers must still evaluate funding needs and continued use.

Writing Part 2|
TOPIC: Do you think schools should give students more opportunities to learn about the history of their neighborhoods?
POINTS: Education / Community / History
I think schools should give students more opportunities to learn about the history of their neighborhoods. First, local history can help students understand how their communities have changed. For example, comparing old maps with modern ones may explain why certain roads were built. Second, students can practice communication by interviewing older residents and checking different sources. However, schools have limited class time and must respect people’s privacy. Teachers could organize short projects during existing social studies lessons and use public records when interviews are not possible. This would make history more meaningful without creating a large extra burden.
