Subject: Information for Next Friday’s Digital History Workshop
Dear Student Groups,
Thank you for registering for the Digital History Workshop at Mapleford Museum. The workshop will begin at 10:15 a.m. All school groups should come to the east entrance between 9:40 and 10:00 a.m. Staff will check the names of participants and explain how historical documents may be used.
The main computer room is being upgraded, so the activity will take place in the first-floor learning hall instead. The start and finish times remain unchanged. The museum will provide computers and scanned maps, but students should bring notebooks and pencils. Please do not bring personal storage devices, because museum staff will provide an approved way to save student work.
Some participants asked whether they could use old photographs from private collections in public presentations. This is possible only after the donors have agreed and the information about the photographs has been checked. If a date is uncertain, students should clearly mark it as uncertain rather than inventing one.
Lunch is available only to groups that ordered meals when registering. The museum cannot accept additional orders on Friday. Schools must arrange their own transportation. If any student needs step-free access, please contact the education office by Wednesday afternoon.
Kind regards,
Museum Education Team

In some towns, residents who work late or attend evening classes have difficulty traveling home after regular buses stop running. The town of Clearbrook introduced a weekend evening shuttle between its station, community center, and hospital. Officials hoped the service would help people without cars, but they also needed to know whether it could operate at a reasonable cost.
During the first month, passenger numbers were lower than expected. At first, some officials believed the service was unnecessary. Later, they discovered that several residents had not seen the timetable. Others thought the last shuttle left earlier than it actually did. The town therefore added larger signs at bus stops, made the online timetable easier to read, and asked the hospital to share the information with visitors.
Ridership increased after these changes. However, a new weekend training course at the community center began during the same period. The town could not be sure how much of the increase was caused by clearer information and how much by the new course. Officials also noticed that their first survey focused on people who had already used the shuttle. Residents who did not use it, possibly because the route was inconvenient, were underrepresented.
Before deciding whether to continue the service, the town plans to compare costs, passenger numbers, and the needs of people with limited mobility. It will also ask nonusers about their reasons for staying away. Officials recognize that a service can be valuable even if ticket income is low, but they must consider whether the same budget could meet local needs more effectively in another way.
問27:Why was the weekend shuttle introduced?
問27
- To replace all trains permanently
- To give every resident a new car
- To prevent people from attending evening classes
- To help people travel when normal buses were unavailable
D:To help people travel when normal buses were unavailable。difficulty traveling home after regular buses stop / help people without cars。
問28:What did officials learn about the low early passenger numbers?
問28
- Every resident had refused to travel
- Some people lacked correct information about the service
- The hospital had closed for the year
- The shuttle never stopped at the station
B:Some people lacked correct information about the service。had not seen the timetable / thought the last shuttle left earlier。
問29:Why was the effect of the improved timetable unclear?
問29
- Another weekend course began at the same time
- All signs had been removed
- The town stopped counting riders
- There were no bus users after the change
A:Another weekend course began at the same time。a new weekend training course … began during the same period。
問30:Who was not well represented in the first survey?
問30
- People who had already ridden it
- People who had not used the shuttle
- Drivers employed by the town
- Visitors who used the hospital
B:People who had not used the shuttle。first survey focused on people who had already used … nonusers … underrepresented。
問31:What will influence the decision to continue the shuttle?
問31
- Only the color of the bus
- Only the price of a new bus stop sign
- Only whether hospital visitors like the seats
- Costs, passenger needs, accessibility, and alternatives
D:Costs, passenger needs, accessibility, and alternatives。compare costs, passenger numbers, and … limited mobility / ask nonusers / other way。

Writing Part 1|
Some communities have opened small spaces where residents can borrow tools and repair simple household items. People may use equipment such as screwdrivers and measuring tapes instead of buying items they need only occasionally. Supporters believe these services make practical skills more accessible and may reduce unnecessary purchases.
However, shared tools create several challenges. Equipment may be damaged or returned with missing parts, and staff need time to inspect each item. Some repairs can be unsafe for beginners, especially when electrical devices are involved. Community centers also need storage space and funds for maintenance.
To manage these problems, organizers can require reservations, provide safety instructions, and inspect tools after every loan. Trained volunteers may offer short lessons, while more complicated repairs are left to specialists. These steps can help the service operate safely, but organizers still need to examine costs and whether people use the tools regularly.
Some communities lend tools so residents can make simple repairs without buying equipment. This may improve access to practical skills, but damage, missing parts, storage, and safety risks create difficulties. Reservations, instructions, inspections, and volunteers can help, although maintenance costs and regular use still need to be examined.
Writing Part 2|
TOPIC: Do you think schools should organize more opportunities for students to learn from local experts?
POINTS: Education / Careers / Community
I think schools should organize more opportunities for students to learn from local experts. First, specialists can explain how classroom subjects are used in real life. For example, engineers could show how mathematics helps them design safer buildings. Second, these activities may help students think about future careers. Meeting people with different jobs could introduce options that students have never considered. However, schools must respect experts’ schedules and avoid making visits too long. Short talks or online interviews during regular lessons would allow students to learn useful information without creating a large extra burden.
