On very hot days, trees can make sidewalks more comfortable by providing shade. One city wanted to plant more trees near bus stops and schools. Officials looked at a map showing where trees already grew and noticed that some neighborhoods had much less shade than others. At first, the city planned to plant trees in the areas with the fewest existing trees. However, local engineers explained that not every street had enough underground space for roots. Some places also had pipes and cables that needed protection. The city therefore asked residents about which walking routes were most uncomfortable in summer and examined the conditions of different streets. During a pilot project, workers planted trees in three suitable locations and checked soil moisture regularly. Residents reported that the new plantings looked attractive, but the trees were too small to provide much shade immediately. Officials explained that benefits would develop over time. They planned to measure shade and surface temperatures in future summers before deciding where to expand the project.

問28:Why could the city not simply plant trees on every street with little shade?

  1. There were no schools in the city.
  2. Residents had asked for all trees to be removed.
  3. Every street already had enough shade.
  4. Some streets lacked suitable underground space or contained pipes and cables.

D:Some streets lacked suitable underground space or contained pipes and cables.。not every street had enough underground space … pipes and cables。

問29:What did the city ask residents about?

  3. Whether they wanted to stop all bus services.
  4. Which walking routes were most uncomfortable during summer.

D:Which walking routes were most uncomfortable during summer.。which walking routes were most uncomfortable in summer。

問30:Why was there little immediate shade at the pilot locations?

  1. The newly planted trees were still small.
  2. Workers had planted trees indoors.
  3. The streets had been closed permanently.
  4. The city had stopped watering the soil.

A:The newly planted trees were still small.。trees were too small to provide much shade immediately。

問31:What will officials do before expanding the program?

  1. Assume the benefits have already reached their maximum.
  2. Replace all pipes without inspecting them.
  3. Measure shade and surface temperatures in future summers.
  4. Ignore the location of schools and bus stops.

Many visitors to large parks use paper maps to find walking routes. However, printed maps cannot always show sudden changes such as a closed path or a damaged bridge. To help visitors plan their trips, some parks have introduced downloadable maps that can be saved on phones and used without an Internet connection. These maps may include marked rest areas, accessible routes, and emergency contact information. They can reduce confusion and help visitors make decisions even when phone signals are weak. However, digital maps have limitations. Information must be updated when routes change, some visitors do not own smartphones, and batteries may run out. Parks therefore need to keep clear signs and paper maps available as well.

模範要約(53語):Some parks offer downloadable maps that work without Internet access and show routes, rest areas, and emergency information. These maps can help visitors navigate when signals are weak. However, routes can change, not everyone owns a smartphone, and batteries may fail. Parks must update digital information and keep paper maps and signs available.

TOPIC: Do you think towns should offer more free workshops where young people can learn practical skills?

模範英作文(97語):I think towns should provide more free workshops where young people can learn practical skills. First, these activities could help teenagers become more independent. For example, a basic sewing workshop might teach them how to repair a bag instead of buying a new one. Second, free workshops give students opportunities that their families might not be able to afford privately. They can also meet people with different experiences and learn from them. However, organizers must use safe equipment and provide trained instructors. With careful planning, practical workshops could benefit young people and strengthen connections in their communities.

確認の要点:as plannedは開始時刻の維持、not requiredは任意、too small to provide much shadeは効果がまだ十分でないことを示します。
